I tried many headset control apps and finally found Jays Headset Control. It's a free app, and if you go to Settings>HTC Redial Fix you can prevent the phone from redialing on double click. Now my Klipsch s4a's and the headphones that came with it work flawlessly with Google Play Music. Didn't seem to work great with the stock music app, but I don't use that anyhow. Hope that helps!

I have beats headphones also and just switched to an HTC One from an iPhone 4s where all the controls worked and am experiencing the same problem with volume control.

Hi everyone, new poster (and convert from iPhone). My HTC one supplied earbuds have an odd problem... I'm hoping someone here has it or can help.

When listening to music through the earbuds, I receive a call, I press the botton on the earbud cord to answer the call, press the button again to hang-up the call, my music returns at MAX volume! Needless to say, I don't want to go deaf. It doesn't seem to return to the previous music volume.

They are great headphones - nice deep base, but I can't deal with the max volume business!!!

Help? or do I just buy another pair with the volume control?

don't use the stock music app
Use poweramp, the headphones just work flawlessly

Dunno what version of the app your're using (free or pay), but I can confirm that headphone controls do not work flawlessly using the free version of the app.

I've got a set of Skullcandy Heavy Medal earbuds that, like most others, work perfectly and do everything on an iPhone but control absolutely nothing on the HTC One apart from being able to pause the track. I'd absolutely entertain buying the paid version of the app if it were clear that it allowed full use of all the buttons, however,I strongly suspect that that isn't the case.

Here is a fix for Beats headphones that worked for me.

1. Use Poweramp app (you can download a trial in the app store). In general, I think that this app is great and it seems to produce better quality sound for some reason. You can also mess with the EQ settings if the phone's preset Beats mode isn't doing it for you.
2. Use Headset Button Controller app (again, you can download a trial first). In this app, target Poweramp as your music player. Now you should be able to press the center button of your Beats headphones once to pause/play, twice to skip forward, three times to go back, and four times to change the volume. This configuration is also customizable.

I use purchased version, but both trial and purchased version work :)
Make sure that you have already go to settings -> headset -> tick respond to headset buttons and double/triple press
And Headset Button Controller does not work on my device. I can only switch song after hundreds of clicks and I worried that I might destroy my headset before it switch songs, so this app is definitely not my choice.

Just so you all know, I had the same dial out problem with a new HTC one. HTC confirmed that the headset should not have control on dialing out. I was sent new headphones from HTC and it was still dialing out with a 2 button push. I brought it to ATT warranty store and they confirmed that it was indeed an error with the phone!! They are selling bunk phones with the selling point of Beats Audio, but the phone doesn't function properly when using the audio!!

Majority of headphones that ARENT MANUFACTOR BY PHONE COMPANY wontwork with android. Example, apple headphones, they work on everything else but android. If you go buy a pair of headphones with buttons and extras they usually only call and pause for Android, never skip orchange volume but work on IOS. Its not sense that's doing it. Quit complaining, T's really not that big of a deal you can change the song from the lock screen...

Apple headphones don't work because of hardware. Apple has the wiring differently.

Sent from my HTC One using AC Forums mobile app

Close. It IS a hardware issue, but not wiring. Look at the headset plug and you'll notice it has 4 rings, not the usual 3. That 4th wire goes to the switches which connect that 4th wire to the common leg of the headphones via different value resistors. The problem is fixed with software as that 4th wire is wired to a DC input A/D converter just to read those resistor values. That same line, by the way, is AC coupled to the microphone. The software fix is to change the voltage values for each button the CPU is looking for. You'll notice some work and do odd things. My Bob Marley headphones do nothing for either the + or - buttons with my SGS3, but the mute/answer button works perfectly. Looking for an app to do that now... wish I messed with code on these and not hardware design ;)

I work for a company that designs and manufactures headphones. In general, if the headset has a three button remote and can control the volume on the device it is a Made for iDevice model (MFI)A MFI compatible headset has a three button remote is designed with specific electrical resistors on the internal circuit board that makes small changes to the current flow when the volume up or volume down button is pressed. The iProduct (phone, pod, pad) recognizes this voltage or current change and adjust the volume accordingly. There is also an small component on the circuit board of the headsets remote that authenticates the MFI product. This component can only be purchased from ONE supplier who is only allowed to sell the component to headset manufacturers that Apple has pre- authorized to buy them (I'm assuming that Apple takes a cut on the sale of each of these components). This is why the volume up and down buttons on the vast majority of headsets with three button remotes only work with Apple devices. This is one of the benefits of Apples closed eco system.
Because Android is an open system each device manufacturer handles the headset button controls differently. Another phone maker could incorporate into their devices Apple's method of recognizing the voltage change from the headset to adjust the volume in order to be compatible with all MFI headset but Apple would probably (definitely) sue them. Therefore, the only way to have universally compatible volume control on a wired headset remote is by using a slider. As a long time iPhone user who recently made the switch to a HTC One (loving it- so far) I think if someone can design an Android app that can see the voltage changes to make MFI headsets compatible with Android phones they would make hella coin- at least until Apple sues them.

The hedphone manufucture Jays have made a app that alows you to see press from the different buttons on an Android compatible headset.
https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...ails?id=se.jays.headsetcontrol&token=DUcv4Av7
This app allows you to send specific comands depending on button press to your media player. you can specify dubble click and different click variations to do different stuff for all of the three buttons or give a reguilar one button remote allot of differen contorll options

It should be noted that on some manufacurer have changed the standard how the different buttons are handled.
On the ONE X HTC have used software changes to get the "volume" buttons to change what song you are playing insted of the volume or any other comand you have specified for those buttons. but if you insert the hedphones with the app running in HEADSET MONITOR mode it will work untill you close the app. if you install a costume rom I have tried Cyanogenmod it works flawlesly.

On the Glaxy S4 it looks like that samsung have used hardware to bind the "volume" buttons to volume up/down and the app cant see the button press and it don't do anything differently on costume roms.

Is there any way to adjust the volume on the standard music app without using the volume buttons on the side of the phone? I am talking about an onscreen volume control?

I tried it today, but I don't think my buds are very good ; just the one button a day the app didn't change a single function. All the button did was start the music player. I would like to see the app make button (s) go to voice control if Android would support it.
