Headphones work for music but not phone

I have TheBoom Pro-2 headphones that used to worked fine for both music and phone calls on my Nexus 5X. Recently however they stopped working for phone calls (can't hear or be heard through them), but I can listen to music, hear alerts, etc with no problem.

I tried a second pair of the exact same headphones and they didn't work either -- BUT -- my Apple headphones work fine for phone calls and music.

I've checked my settings for the phone app and sound and everything looks good.

Can anyone help me figure out what is going on?

Welcome to Android Central! Try using a can of compressed air to blow out the jack, in case there's some debris lodged in there.

I tried that...still not working. A co-worker with the same headset, who also has an Android phone is reporting the same issue. The headphones work with iPhone though.

There are sometimes minor differences with the jack configuration between iPhones and Android devices. Have you already tried varying the position of the headphone plug? Making sure it's plugged in all the way? Or perhaps trying with the plug pulled out just a little?

Also, did this start after a recent system update?
