When making phone calls, the person on the other end doesn't seem to hear me. This has happened on a few calls now...ran a diagnostics to see if my mic works (checked out ok, even speaking/testing it out at different angles). I also checked to see if "mute" was being engaged by my face (it wasn't). Anyone else having issue? Fixes? Btw I'm running this beautiful phone on Bell Canada

Similar thing happened with my phone, except it was for incoming calls only.

My phone is on Verizon and after working with Essential support, I called Verizon. They removed and re-added my phone to the network and it works fine now. Apparently just needed resetting.

I called into tech support... they had no idea what I was talking about. I was referred to engineering.

Same problem here using this phone on Bell Mobility Canada. I reported it to Essential but I didn’t get a response so far. What OS version and patch are you running and what did you attempt so far to resolve this?

I’m a bit disheartened to hear that you’re experiencing this issue on what is probably stock OS (I’m on Oreo beta). Now that there are two of us on the same carrier with the same issue though perhaps if we work together we can actually get this sorted. I’m suspect of the frequency band settings perhaps not jiving with Bell. I don’t have my Essential in hand right now but it will post some more thoughts later.

Someone from engineering called me and said everything checked out on their end. So it must be the hardware.

After a few tests of my own, I have found disabling the "enhanced 4g LTE" mode did the trick.

I have a feeling that the last service update messed with the band's frequency somehwat and is not jiving with Bell's networks. I have no idea who to reach out to in the Essential team to have them address it for the next update

On Oreo Beta 2 turning off the enhanced 4G LTE functions does not improve the issue. You are on the latest official patch or the beta?

I'm on the official patch. Waiting to see if the Oreo update will fix it... But from the sound of how things are going with the BETA, it's not looking so good

I think the problems started happening with the last "carrier services" update

The beta definitely does not fix anything. If anything, it seems to be worse as toggling off enhanced LTE services has no effect. I am not familiar with a carrier services update. I don't remember seeing one. Are you referring to something that was included with the latest patch?

No, "carrier services" is a separate download found in the play store. It's last update was on Dec 8th.

Interesting. I am going to look through the list of system apps. Anything that was updated through the Play Store can be reverted back to prior versions. If this actually fixes the issue then we have something concrete to provide to Essential to look into. Right now my report just refers to the issue as a problem with the beta.

If I figure out where this APK resides I will try to post instructions how to revert it. Usually simply disabling the app will force it back to the system installed version removing any updates in the process.

Having said this though, I don’t remember seeing an update like this come through so it is possible that it is baked into Oreo Beta 2.

Sounds like a solid plan... please keep the thread updated of your findings. I'm sure we are not the only 2 with this issue

I removed the Carrier Services update. This update was from Google directly. You should uninstall yours as well (just go to the Play Store, search for Carrier Services and hit Uninstall). Let me know what happens on your end. I'm going to do some test calling tomorrow.

Any update from your side? I had some stuff come up today that prevented me from testing the phone after removing Carrier Services update. Did you have a chance to test on your end?

Sorry no, I haven't had much time to do anything. Been battling the flu, so no phone tinkering. any luck on your end with it?

Hello, hello, is there anybody in there? Just nod if you can hear me, is there anyone at home...... In the immortal words of Pink Floyd, Comfortably Numb... ??????

No, same as you, been too busy to tinker. I need to swap SIMs and find people to help me test, but things have been too busy. I’ll post an update as soon as I have one.

Hi, I am experiencing the same thing. Same scenario, got my phone from Amazon and currently on Bell plan.

At first I thought it was a Bluetooth issue as it happened mainly while driving. Still does happen mainly when calling someone from my car or someone calling me from their car.

But I've had other scenarios where I'm home and someone calls me and the issue still happens.

I read somewhere that this was a known issue with some LG phones and that the issue disappeared by changing some settings on Google Assistant (something to do with "OK Google" being on all the time?). I've tried that, and the issue seemed to disappear. However, this morning the issue re-occurred.

Some times switching from regular voice call to Whatsapp call seemed to alleviate the issue, but then even calling via Whatsapp gave me the same problem....

Hopefully this can be figured out. It's quite annoying...

Quick update that I have decided to wait until Oreo Beta 3 drops before I continue testing. I reported the issue to Essental under Oreo Beta 2 so perhaps they would have looked at something.

Hopefully this can be figured out. It's quite annoying...
I’d say it’s a bit more than quite annoying. It kind of makes the phone unusable as a phone. Did you try Google Hangouts Dialer for a pure data connection while calling? What happens then?
