i tried using rom manager to change my rom on my phone and now im stuck in bootloop. ive done it before and pretty sure i done it the same way this time but now when i get to the recovery screen and cllick the update.zip file it says something about not having the right permission or something along that line. Ive cleared all system data and factory reset and cleared all cache and still nothing. i click the reboot now and it will bring up my logo then shuts back off and do it again. any ideas i can try to fix it? To me it sounds like my file is corrupt or something but i haven't had a chance to hook it to my computer yet to check it.

Sounds like Rom Manger corrupted some files, if you backed up with Bootstrap before starting all you have to do is boot into recovery mode and restore from the backup.... You can not flash a update.zip file because that is intended normally for the stock recovery app not Bootstrap.

it doesnt give me the option to restore from backup. all it gives me is reboot, apply sdcard:update.zip, wipe data/factory reset, and wipe cache partition. I made a backup using droid x bootstrap right before i did this and also made a backup on rom manager.

when i run the update.zip it says:
E: Cant open / cache/recovery/command
--install from sdcard...
.finding update package...
opening update package...
verifying update package...
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

You might need to go into the bootloader (power and home buttons and let it boot up until you get to the ! screen, then press the search button) and load the 2.2.1 SBF file. This would be a last resort as it will totally replace everything in your internal flash (all data, etc. not on your SD card will be lost.

Hopefully, others here will have better ideas. :)
