[HELP] Dropped my Samsung Galaxy S3 in water.

Re: [HELP}Dropped my Samsung Galaxy S3 in water.

Happened to me once also.

Fortunately I did as was mentioned before (remove battery and leave to dry for 48 hours to make sure the moisture is out). Did not do the rice thing though (think it would remove moist, but not sure if you would get rice-dust in the phone ;-P ).

Anyway, works like a charm now (could hardly believe it).

Yes. Take the back cover off (you can just dry that by hand; it doesn't need to go in the container of rice), take the battery out and dry it and the phone as best you can with a paper towel, shake the phone to try to get any excess moisture out and then bury the battery and phone in rice and seal the container (a zip lock bag will work fine). Leave everything alone for a couple of days and then reassemble it all (you can use a hair dryer on cool to blow any rice dust away) and try powering it on.

Re: [HELP}Dropped my Samsung Galaxy S3 in water.

Mine was taken out by High surf (high tide)...........Saltwater! I was frantically looking for it and someone did find it. The first thing I did was remove the battery, SD card, and SIM card. I then tried to get as much water out as possible until I got home so I could put it in rice. I did so for about 3 days. I then put in an extra battery I had (most likely the original would not work anyway) and powered it up. To my surprise it worked fine with the exception of the "volume" down, and I can no longer use the SD card, as it shorts the phone out. Other than that the phone works good. This happened about 6 months ago, I have since moved on to an LG3. I did fire The S3 up today and everything still works good.

Just in case someone reads this in the future, they shouldn't get the impression that all they have to do if it gets immersed in salt water is shake it off and do the rice thing: salt water is very corrosive on electronic components and it's much better to take the device apart and wash it with electronic contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol and a toothbrush (or even just deionized water if you don't have access to the other alternatives). Then shake it off and give it the rice treatment.

You were pretty lucky that yours held up so long.

Correct, by all means that is the course of action. I had resigned myself to the fact that my S3 was toast, and new I would be getting a new phone because saltwater is very corrosive. The fact that it worked, and still works to this day is puzzling; I do suspect that the fact that I did not use Isopropyl alcohol or distilled water will in time show signs of corrosion.

Re: [HELP}Dropped my Samsung Galaxy S3 in water.

My s3 was accidentally soaked in water a few days ago but I didn't do anything (rice was not available at that moment and I just knew after reading this thread now) as I didn't know what to do except to wipe the water out. Now it is not charging correctly, keeps on detecting and undetected and at times it would show being docked. (I think this is what you guys mean by short circuit?)

I know this is kind of too late but can anybody share what should I do with my phone? Will the rice method still help at this point?

Hello Badelhas, I have the same issue with my S3 after i tried to clean the charging micro usb port with an alcohol based agent, mi SIM card is not recognize and a null IMEI, I swap the SIM/SD tray with a working one with no effect on my phone, my SIM tray works fine on the other S3 so it's probably something on the motherboard, you said you fixed yours with about 45 euros, what was the fix please if u know ?

Tanks in advance, I am waiting for a response

Not always true. I thought my S3 was lost after swimming in the pool (didn't recognize sim cards, imei null and baseband unknown problem), everyone said that I was going to need a new main board but it only took 45 euros to fix.

I dropped my Samsung S3 in the toilet about 6 hours ago. When it went into the toilet the battery was already dead and needed charging. I took the back off when I got home dried it and placed it on the charger. The phone will not turn on. I just read the postings in here and have taken the battery out and placed the phone in a bag full of rice. Do you think it's too late for my phone? I am going to leave it in the rice for a couple of days. I pray it will be ok.

my Samsung is really acting weird i looked at something that if your battery doesn't have the xxx (in red) that it was in water probably so than i was looking at someones conversations and it might not have theses symptoms but it is all blacky and i took out the battery and SD car and i'm thinking about putting it in rice or dry packs or maybe put it outside ( it is about 98 degrees) and letting the water evaporate i think water so any suggestions for letting water go or what it is. thanks :'(:confused:

THANKS IF YOU ANSWERED MY QUESTION :)

You can place in kitty litter if you have...or in the warming draw of your oven with the warmer switched on, or leave it in the sun....under the heat pump, however, make sure of course the battery is disconnected. as any electrical current will short circuit while its wet, and doom it forever. Keep the open battery side exposed so moisture can evaporate.

Mine flew into the bath grabbed it out quite quickly took out the battery towel dried, left it open on the drying rack, 5hours latter put the battery back in and had a brief screen then a hissing (radio type) noise..so opened again and have put in the warmer draw..I'm 50/50 as I'd obviousley replaced the battery and switched on while there was still moisture inside.

I am so stupid and dropped mine in water too! I put it in rice! I fear its too late for the high quality sound! :( Thanks 4 the rice tip tho
Someone told me a hairdryer works well :3
