Hi I reset my Note 8 because after using this thing for a year and half, with all the security updates, my GPS location would stop working mid drive or my push notifications would stop working.

I booted into recovery and factory reset my phone. Now the phone won't work with mobile data. Well it only works with mobile data when I am on a phone call and my signal switches from LTE to 4G. THis is the most bizzare thing I have ever seen. I only get internet when I am on a phone call

This is supposed to be the opposite behavior. I've called Metro and they couldn't help me. I suspect this might be some weird Google Security issue. I can't seem to find anyone with the same issue I am having. I have tried all sorts of settings and now just reset my phone to factory again and I am getting the same issue

Welcome to Android Central! Did you get the phone from Metro, or did you bring it there from somewhere else? Make sure the APN is correct: https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/con...t.device-support.general-troubleshooting.html

Hi @B. Diddy. I thought I was signed in when I made this post. This is a BYOD phone as Metro doesn't get the Notes. I do have the correct APN settings. I have had to toggle off LTE now and that is the only way I can get data

Re: HELP! Factory Rest Note 8, Only get internet when I'm on a phone call

Look for a VoLTE toggle and make sure it's turned on. It might be called something different, like Enhanced 4G, Advanced Calling, HD Voice, or other things.

Also, is wi-fi calling on?

Duplicate threads merged, and I changed the OP owner to you.

Re: HELP! Factory Rest Note 8, Only get internet when I'm on a phone call

My issue is not that I cannot access internet. Its that I cannot use LTE. I can only use internet when I am on a phone call which is when my Phone switches from LTE to 4G. I wish you had merged the old with the new one as it better reflects the title.

My data only works when I am in 4G mode which is way slower and less powerful

I can recieve SMS and take phone calls in LTE mode but cannot access internet

re: HELP! Factory Reset Note 8, 4G data works but Not LTE Despite Fixing APN settings (MetroPCS+TMo)

It's a bit odd, because LTE is 4G -- unless the "4G" that your phone shows is actually HSPA+ ("pseudo 4G"). But I'm pretty sure that on T-Mobile and any of its MVNOs, HSPA+ would show up as H+.

In the Settings>Mobile Networks>Network Mode menu, what's selected?

I still think it may have something to do with VoLTE. T-Mobile is fast-tracking the shutdown of its 3G network, which means all users (both on T-Mobile and any of its MVNOs) would have to have a phone that is capable of VoLTE in order to function correctly on the network. https://www.androidpolice.com/2020/...nes-incomopatible-devices-kicked-off-january/. I realize what you're experiencing is the opposite of what one would expect in this situation, it might still be a glitch that's related to the network modifications T-Mobile is working on after the Sprint merger.

I modified your title. I think people will get the gist from it.

So that 4G is TMobile's 3G. They play a trick with that from what I understand. I am on a Note 8 and on TMobile's site it says: "Though this is VoLTE capable, you are not able to modify the settings."

So I have not been able to modify this setting.

The only thing I can do is change the mode of which my phone operates. There are 3 options LTE/3G/2G auto connect, 3G/2G auto connect and 2G only. The only way for me to get internet signal is to switch down to 3G/2G auto connect

re: HELP! Factory reset Note 8, 3G data works but not LTE despite fixing APN settings. (MetroPCS+TMo)

What's the exact model number of the phone? I want to look up the exact LTE band support it has.

Calling HSPA+ "4G" is a pretty old thing (kind of like AT&T calling its 4G "5Ge" now) -- I wasn't sure if phones still showed it that way these days. I sounds like when you make a call, the call itself is going over LTE, and the mobile data is going over HSPA+ (since they both can't go over LTE with no VoLTE support). I'm not sure why you can't get mobile data while not on a call, though.

The unfortunate bottom line, though, is that you won't be able to use that phone on Metro/T-Mobile for much longer, based on the article I linked previously.:-\

I'm gonna have to check out this article. Are you trying to tell me that a phone as modern as a Note 8 is no longer good enough for TMo/Metro. What kind of world am I living in? WHY? I thought VolTE is only for phone call stuff. WHy should it matter to me? I just want to be able to use my LTE. Its not like Tmob has implemented 5G.

I am in Hillsboro Oregon btw

Metro pcs , you might have to visit a store or call them to configure your sim and device

Wireless companies have been planning on shutting down 2G and 3G networks for a while now, because they're old, slow, and inefficient. They can repurpose those bands for faster networks (4G & 5G). VoLTE is the way to have voice calls over LTE while also having access to the internet (otherwise, it's only one or the other, not both at the same time).

That variant should cover T-Mobile's main bands, so that doesn't seem to be the issue. I'm thinking more and more that it has to do with the lack of VoLTE support.

It might be worth calling T-Mobile's support rather than Metro's to see if one of the agents there can shed light on the whole VoLTE thing in relation to the upcoming 3G sunset and the Sprint merger.

The crazy part is that I can recieve pics and MMS via LTE. Just cannot connect to internet over LTE

I've called them and the reset my connection on their end. I gues the only thing left is to go to a local store and see if they can do anything

Yeah go to a corporate store

Hell I went a step further and reset my phone to factory and had them reset my network connections on their end which apparently deleted all my voice mails

But yes I reset my network settings and toggled mobile data on and off

Metro pcs , have them configured it , not as simple just putting a sim like Tmobile sim and automatically configure even though it's by Tmobile, don't think they have changed this part even after sprint merger, best go in person to cooperate store have them do some things.

I''ll try though I don't know what else they can do besides change my APN settings. I have no idea what other settings I can configure that I haven't touched
