Help !! Galaxy S3 Freezing every few minutes. unresponsive.

Hey guys I think i found a solution. I had this problem for 2 weeks... at first it was freezing about 3-5 times a day. and then it was freezing like crazy every few minutes.

This is what I did and it's been 2 days without any freezing at all.

1. Format your SD card and remove it
2. Factory reset your phone. --- settings->back up and reset.

And that's it! my phone is back to normal, it's been 2 days without freezing.
I'm running android 4.1.2 in Colombia (Claro/Comcel)
Everyone who has this problem, try this and let me know if it worked.

NOTE: I haven't inserted my SD card again yet, I'm gonna transfer all my music back
to it and I'll let you know if my phone had any issues when I insert it back.

BEST SOLUTION (if you have warranty)

Give it back to samsung, they change me the "A/S ASSY - PBA MAI" , in other words the motherboard, and now my S3 came back to life!!!

thanks to all!

Yep, replacing the motherboard is the only thing that worked for me

Back with another update-
After I uninstalled samsung app and let the phone unfreeze(approx 20 mins) i got an uptime of abt 85h.
After that it started freezing again :( :( .
Is there any OTA update coming up after I9300XXELL4 ?
Anyone knows?

Yes I have 19300XXEMB5 which I got after the 19300XXeLL4 although my phone had stopped freezing with both of them.

I never received any OTA update after ELL4.
Can I manually install EMB5?
My phone is german factory unlocked.

Hi together,

I had the freezing problems too. For Germany is a new Update available: XXEMC2, but only for unbranded phones. I've updated via Kies.
Freezing-free since approx. 30 hours+. Hopefully it fixed the problem, otherwise I will resend my S3 to Amazon and let replace the mainboard, like the others mentioned before.

My phone was still under warranty with Amazon UK and they changed it for a new one with no argument. The new phone started freezing after a couple of days, even though I installed only minimal apps compared with the old one.

I've now given up with the S3 and bought a Nexus 4. Rock solid. I strongly suspect issues in the mass of Samsung bloatware; dozens of unremovable junk processes. The Nexus is, of course, just pure Android. Ahhh, peace.:)

For the past week or two I've also been finding my phone freezing incessantly, particularly frequently if wifi is turned on, but even occasionally with it turned off. Examples include using the phone then moments later going to unlock it again but all I get is black screen until I reboot by holding the power button until it does a hard reset. Also get freezing within apps which do not return. Just freezes again until reboot. Had a think about what I'd changed recently and one thing I did was switch to using Chrome as my default browser rather than the other built in "Internet" browser. Seems to be ok so far today with lower battery consumption too. Perhaps the multiple tabs I had running in the background in Chrome (youtube, facebook, etc.) were still running and causing a lot of data transfer which can be quite a resource hog on this phone. Anyway cleared data and application defaults for Chrome in Application management and seeing how it goes. So far so good.

Thanks wudaan, I will update to this firmware and see the results, hopefully it would be good :) :)

i reset the samsung app to factory default and reset the samsung push service to earlier version through applications manager. now the problem is gone!!
thanks a lot. my S3 was really starting to be big trouble with the screen freezing every 5 or 10 min. Samsung should stop cramming android with their crappy software which are of no use to people in any case.

Please update if you faced the issue again after disabling Samsung Push Service?? Please share feedback ...

My S III also has this freezing problem for the past few days now. It's very annoying. I have a Belgian model.. don't know if there are other Belgians here with that same problem? What's the solution to fix it please?

Re: Help !! Galaxy S3 Freezing every few hours, unresponsive.

I have the same problem, what usually helps is taking out the battery.
My phone does not respond at all , its seems like the phone is actually waiting for a call to come in to freeze, I can't use the power button, accept/ reject calls, heck if I call the phone it doesn't even ring, nothing works when it freezes like that, nothing but taking out the battery, it normally boots back up with out a problem. I wonder though if like with a laptop you can damage some thing doing that, not sure, but it works for me.

Hi all,

I've read quite a lot of posts from people over the last few days as I've been having the same problem for a while and it seemed to be getting worse.

Yesterday I removed the SD card as per a number of recommendations and although it helped a little it didn't solve the problem, I was still freezing on average once per hour.

This morning I put the SD card back in to see if it made much difference and it got a little worse (freezing every few mins), so I took it back out again.

GOOD NEWS though - I've tried rolling back Samsung App and Samsung Push to factory default through Apps Manager and ignoring the update requests after that (I was rather cynical and didn't expect much), and so far I've not had the freeze again yet. It's not been long enough to say it's a cure, just a few hours, BUT the one thing I've noticed is that the performance of the S3 has improved dramatically, e.g. switching between apps there is no lag whatsoever and it's far more responsive than it has been in a long time - it's running as quickly as a brand new handset even with chunky apps like WhatsApp, Facebook, Messaging, e-mail etc.

I'll keep tabs on it for the rest of the day and if it's not frozen tonight I'll try re-inserting the SD card too, then post an update...

Here's some info for the cool-*** super-geeks who know this shiz far better than me:
Current firmware - PDA:LLA/PJONE:LK1/CSC:LL2 (O2U) - this is the latest version according to Kies
Unlocked, on o2, stock model, UK (not tried rooting yet).

Keep rockin' y'all...

Okay. What I can say about the freezing is that I think I have found the reason. The freezing began on my phone randomly about 6 months into having it. So I told my insurance company and they sent me a brand new Samsung Galaxy S3. It was brand new. So I go to switch it on. No problems. I haven't downloaded anything by this time and guess what. It crashes. I took the battery out about 15 times in total. It even got to the point my phone would not boot up and was stuck on the boot up screen. If this happens, turn your phone off. Press and hold volume up + home button and power button until the screen comes on. Wen it opens up click on reboot system. This normally fixes the locking up on boot up. Then once that was fixed, I enabled advanced settings and then enabled show all ANRs. What this does is it tells the user if an application is not responding in the back ground and I have found that the reason it freezes is that they are not responding. Just like a program on your computer, if it doesn't respond the program will not work and it will crash or freeze or lag your computer out. Today I had found that the system UI was not responding the the notification bar disappeared. However, it did to crash but normally when something on my phone doesn't respond, not long after that it freezes. Only allowing it to sit there like a lemon for 20 minutes because taking the battery it only worsens the problem. Hope I helped:-$
