I'm starting the process of hinting with the wife about replacing the current laptop with a Xoom (mostly because I hate the keyboard and the LCD screen quality on the laptop.)

I'd like to hear of any potential issues/growing pains that would hinder WAF. I don't want to have to hear about this or that without at least mentioning the potential issues before hand.

So with that said, what are some of the issues that would make a non-techy have issue with the Xoom, compared to a laptop?

She mostly only uses basic web browsing, email and facebook. But it would be good to know about other issues too.

One other thing, does the Xoom have good BT keyboard support for basic computer BT keyboards, specifically the Logitech DiNovo Edge?

WAF --- ???

I have not a good reliable way to print yet. This may present a problem..

What is WAF?????

WAF = wife acceptance factor, I think.

Earlier this year I let my wife spend $22k on something she wanted personally. I've got a free pass for whatever I want for the next few years.

She's understanding anyways, but now she doesn't say anything...ever.

Motorola sells a compact bluetooth keyboard marketed toward the Xoom and Atrix (and I'm sure the Bionic and others as they are released). I just paired my Dell BT keyboard with my Xoom and it works, but I can't tell what keys on the Dell correspond to the functions (media control, volume, music, browser, etc.) on the Moto keyboard. The volume knob and mute keys work, so I'm sure the others would as well if I played around with it.

I think the the xoom would be fine if those are her uses. However my browser, and other things would force close quite often. My wife wouldn't put up with it.

Hmmm I have had it since day one and maybe had 5 total. I see alot of people saying this, what are they doing with it that im not?

I'm not sure... I didn't notice it until about 4-5 days in. Not side loading apps or doing anything crazy either.

Yes, Wife Acceptance Factor.

I figured printing would be a hassle, but we still have the basement computer. Technically, we?d still be able to pull out the laptop too, but I?m trying to petition for the tablet to take up ?day-to-day? activities.

Does it have a basic way to transfer files to/from other locations on the LAN? I mean, other than plugging the USB cable in? I assume it supports ?Wifi Media Sync? and the like?

Yeah, I saw that. But I already have a DiNovo that we don?t really use anymore.

Does your Dell keyboard ?wakeup? and respond quickly with the xoom?

The nice thing about the DiNovo (at least when used with a computer) is that there is almost no lag at all when waking up, and no key presses are missed. If there is a significant pause, or you need to re-type a letter or two, I think that would cause frustration.

Can you wake the xoom up by pressing a key on the keyboard? Or do you have to press the power button on the back first?

I use drop box for syncing files, I know that Amazon also just released some kind of cloud storage and I'm going to check that out also. but other than that, there's no built in way to sync that I'm aware of.

For printing, I use an app called Cloud Print, its not perfect but it does work well for what it does. It easily prints documents I have created with QuickOffice or any other document I have stored on the Xoom but you can only print email if you use K9 mail client. You can print web pages from the built in browser but I haven't been able to print from Opera, haven't tried any others. Also, in order to use Cloud Print, you have to have Chrome installed on the PC that the printer is connected to and have cloud printing enabled in Chrome's settings.

I do hope Google comes up with a better way to print, thats deffinately one place where my wife's ipad has the xoom beat.

Isn?t there a version of ?Wifi Media Sync? available for Android? I currently use it on my Palm Pre to transfer files to/from the phone over the home LAN and it works well enough.

Is it not compatible with Android 3.0 yet?

I don?t need full network folder browsing, just a way to shuttle the odd file back and forth every so often? ?without having to dink with a USB cable.

Thanks. But honestly, mine is quite spartan compared to many in that forum.

A good reference for what is possible...

That room looks great. I am not a big poster at AVS Forums, we have a ~$140k Control4 system and most people at AVS aren't a big fan and tend to get a little hostel. Hopefully you're not one of them.

The theater room looks great. I haven't finished the theater in our current home, we just built it and the basement still isn't done but I've got big plans for it. We excavated under our garage, go I've got a room roughly 34' x 60' that has no windows, one door, and is completely encased in concrete (including the ceiling).

You did a good job on your theater, don't let anyone else tell you otherwise.
