Hi all. Apparently I'm new to this rooting and may have bricked my Optimus V. At first I was having problems being stuck in RomTools recovery mode, now I'm stuck on the LG logo screen that I get when I first turn on the phone. I think I accidentally rooted a bad one with "$" instead of "#" the second time around.

I've tried to access recovery doing home+volume down+power, but what happens is I get LG for a second, blank, then a backlit blank screen. I tried hitting buttons as I remember one of the buttons were turning the screen off and on, but that didn't work.

I tried Emergency Mode and I can access that mode, but here's the problem. When I connect to USB I keep getting an icon on the taskbar saying "This device can perform faster. This USB device can perform faster if you connect it to a Hi speed USB 2.0 port." It says this on both my computers. I also can't access my SD card as I usually would with USB mode.

Last, I tried the KDZ thing. I guess it didn't work cause it couldn't detect my phone properly just like in Emergency Mode.

Launching SW update
Unpacking KDZ
KDZ file extraced
Extract file error
===FINISHED===

It's likely that I'm SOL, but if any way I can get some better assistance than doing it myself I would be glad. Sorry for the wall of text as well and I would be happy to explain the steps I remember I took to end up where I am :'(

Have you tried to use the fast boot method on the forum?

Explaining the steps that got you where you are should always be the first thing you detail in order to narrow down what went wrong.

I don't think so. I'll look into it right now.

I was following this guide and was fine flashing AospCMod and Gapps. Then it came to the point where I had to reboot. Every time I rebooted I ended up back in CW recovery mode. So I started over back from the shell root flashing (around steps 7-10) and I guess I messed up around here. I was supposed to get a "#" symbol to show that the flashing was good, but I got "$" for this 2nd attempt which meant it was a bad attempt. I closed the menu and ended up flashing the root still on accident with the bad attempt.

It restarted my phone and said it was supposed to boot in recovery but it just hanged on the LG screen. I had a back up made, but I can't access it since I can't go into recovery I guess.

Update- I tried to use fastboot, but since I can't get USB to work properly, the program doesn't detect my phone. Have to figure out some way to get it to detect my phone properly. All I keep getting when I connect USB is "This device can perform faster. This USB device can perform faster if you connect it to a Hi speed USB 2.0 port." I can disable things like the Virtual Modem that pops up, but just isn't a successful USB connection.

If you don't know what you're doing...........

WHY ARE YOU DOING IT?!!? ASK FOR HELP BEFORE YOU BRICK THE PHONE!!

Jesus, even ROMTools is like completely self-explanatory.

Do you have a different USB port you can use?

Which usb drivers are you using?

Do you have the android sdk installed with adb, if so have you tried connecting via adb during power up?

Reading is hard, pretty much every bricked phone thread lately can be solved with a simple search of the forums.
A lot of people came here I think from the VM Facebook page when the Froyo update came out for the Intercept.
That was a zoo and I laughed my ass off the same question being asked over and over on how to do the manual update.
My Father always told me I would learn more with my mouth closed and listening in these cases reading and I think if you don't know how to search the internet modding phones is not for you.

Tell me about it, there are only to complete how2 guides STICKIED, not RIGHT AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE that don't say [HOW2] and [REFERENCES].

There is nothing wrong with using ROMTools, just learn about what it's doing, why it's doing it and how it does it....

Over at another forum someone is complaining that when the Dev's make a new rom that they are not putting in the instructions not to do a settings > Privacy> Factory reset and now my phone is bricked and it is his/her fault for not telling me.

I started that thread, and I NEVER said it was the dev's fault, nor was I complaining, only suggesting a warning be added.

Why don't you just monitor all the new rom threads and add the warning your self if you are fast enough you could even be the first post after the OP.
Or perhaps the mods could make a big flash ad with sirens screaming the warning or something.
If people are too lazy to read the sticky posts what makes you think that if they sticky your post over there people will read it.
In general the people that get in a hurry and want what we have will skip the bs disclaimers and still screw up.
Or maybe we should have 40-50 stickies warning people of things that could brick their phones my suggestion would be before you download anything here you have to solve a simple math problem before you are granted downloading rights.

Linking to his page only pumps him in Google rank.
If he hates it so much, why does he keep using it.

^This

or make them take a basic course on android hacking and then make them take a test before they download stuff, and even then, someone will manage to brick their phone because of their stupidity.

RavenSEAL you remind me of a banned user.

Desmond.

You guys posting style is very similar.

That said, I have always stated one click tools are not the best way to do things if you dont know what your doing. Yet you guys keep preaching the gospel that they are beneficial and blah blah blah yet it always seems to be the people that insist on using the one clicks and do it for me while I sit and pick my nose that have the worst problems.

Reading over and over will do nothing but frustrate you if you cant understand what the hell your doing. And until that understanding is met then one click processes will do nothing but create these kinds of problems. And then people like you will come along and scream jesus even [insert one click program here] is super easy.

@Black Jesus I think your new around here arent you?
Otherwise you would know the reason Jerry started the thread.

First, LOL, I'm not whoever you claim I am.

Second, Using ROMTools is so easy, it's sad, there is NO LOGICAL WAY you can brick your phone if you read the instructions. Now you're blaming me for the stupidity of other people and flaming me for it? L.O.L

I vouch for it's use ONLY if you have a basic knowledge of how and why it operates in such a way. There are people that are desperate to flash and i say, hey, go use this, BUT READ THE DAMN INSTRUCTIONS FIRST and KNOW THE CONSEQUENCES.

Go troll somewhere else...

My point is not that we should hand-hold people and walk them through the process. My point is that there is really only one way to brick your phone to the point that the flash chip has to be flashed itself. Yet there isn't a single ROM dev thread I've seen that puts up a prominent warning about not using the Factory Reset under privacy settings.

Seems as if the one thing that bricks phones should be important enough to be addressed.

I don't know about others but Bumblebee ROM instruction has a warning in it. I am not sure if that warning is prominent enough for you.

Oh for crying out loud.
I think I know the thread in questions and yeah its not a common thing for the devs to inform people not to use factory reset on our phone. Jerry even made a quite amusing animation that I jokingly said he should pimp it to devs for so ******edly obscure amount.

You guys wanna get all nit picky then go ahead. I have fun with those kinds of posts.
