Help please - Before I smash this phone with a hammer - Calendar wont work !

I've done that now 35 times already - it does not add my account and there are no accounts in the list - as I said above.

You need a Gmail account. The only other type of calendar you can add is a corporate calendar. Unless you have settings for Yahoo Calendar that let you add it that way, I don't think you'll be able to. Maybe someone else knows how to link a calendar created with a non-Gmail address.

Thanks for your patience - I'm a mobile phone modder - I've ripped firmware apart and made my own versions and added new functions since 10 years ago when you didn't have smartphones and the options to change things didnt exist.

I have done everything correctly - The google account has been there from the start and I've even deleted and re registered it many times. I have done everything as above over 35 times and it dont wanna play ball.

I dont think it has anything to do with a gmaill account as I have added a calendar to my google account online and it's there in my account online.

There is an advanced problem here -something tecnical is going wrong - Personally I think I'm going to have to do a factory reset on the phone set a new google account and waste all my efforts setting up the phone after the past 3 days just because the calendar doesnt work and do it all again.

Unless someone has any other ideas ? I might leave it a couple of days before I do a reset just in case it starts working but I have researched this on the web and it seems to be a bug in the firmware !

I prefer to use the calendar that came with the phone as an extra calendar will use a hell of a lot of battery as it has to run in the background all the time - but thanks for the info

The thing to do is smash your phone as you said you would. Then get one of those little books with the day and months on the pages, keep a roll of dimes in your pocket in case you need to use a pay phone. Easy.

Are you definitely sure the google account you are using on your phone is the same as the google account you set the calendar up in on your computer? Go to settings and go to accounts and check if everything looks fine. Go to calendar and go to the 3 dots and click on calendars to display, see if that looks fine and also check in calendars to be synced. If everything still seems correct then go to settings again and apps, find calendar storage and clear the data.

If your google account is on your phone but not showing in your calendar app, have you tried clearing cache and data in the calendar app and calendar storage app and rebooting the phone?

I've set up a google calendar as I said but it wont sync to my phone - In account settings it says sync is off and when I press synch now nothing changes.

I am not using my N4 today but go to the people app, the one with your contacts. Once there hit the three dots on lower right. Then Accounts and is the auto sync app data checked and do you see your google account listed?

Now go to settings > accounts > google and press on your goggle account...is the sync calendar checked?

If so when putting an appointment into the N4 calendar by adding a new event using the three dots to the upper right corner, it should tell you which calendar you are using. Mine has my google account in that space.

If none of this works, can I buy your N4 for $100 before you smash it?

No - I logged into google on my PC and just added a callendar and put an event on it - google has my yahoo account assigned to it.
On the phone under my google account there is no mention of a calendar in settings and I cant add my google account to the calendar - it has no accounts !

yahoo sucks. just forward all your mail from your yahoo account to your new google account and everything will work great. I promise.

agreed! That is what I do. Nothing works on Android like a gmail account! I think you must have the $20 a year yahoo account to forward to gmail.

Treknologist - thanks I've read those and understand how it works - I'm very tech savy - but not google savy !

Thanks for the replies guys - I dont use my google account normally- But I just logged into my google account that I never use and created a calendar and I cant get the acount to synch with the phone and it wwont let me use the calendar - I,ve tried 30 times to add my account to the calendar but it wont do it. I try syching my google account on the phone in the settings and it keeps saying there's an error and try again !

Umm? how exactly do you have an Android phone if you don't use your Google account? It's kinda required to use an Android device?

I would like to say though to all you brainwashed google deciples that I bought the phone for the features -not because of any link with google - who up to this point I have seen as the EVIL BIG BROTHER !
Google's history of illegallity in using peoples private and personal information without permission is prolific to say the least. Not only this but with their google cars, which were meant to be taking pictures of roads for google street - were in fact extracting private information and passwords from ANY wifi connection they passed on the way - NOW THAT IS CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR - but they are a billion dollar company so no one goes to jail -they just pay a fine - and here in the EU they are under some pretty heavy **** for doing this and it will be intertesting to see how much in total they're going to have to pay !

I love this N4 it works great - except the poxy calendar - which I'm not allowed to use as I dont suck googles c*ck

I am thinking about settting up a gmail as I do see the wonderful features that come with the cloud info that accompanies it.

You can't really use an android phone without selling your soul to google. In exchange, google will give you lots of shiny features.

Either create a google email and an associated calendar, or get rid of the phone and buy some non-android smart phone.

You don't have to use the gmail account much, but without it, a lot of google services won't work properly.

You can always establish a Gmail account to get the calendar on the phone and turn off the sync once you have it set up on the phone, I suppose.

Yep - I think in the end I'll probably do just that, thanks Treknologist - at the mo tho I'm happy enough, I'll just use alarms to alert me of events until I really need the calendar feature - everything else is working spot on !

You act like this is a new discovery. Yes android is given to OEM's for free because they want you to use their apps and get your info. Now which tech company does not do that again? Enlighten me.

Lots of people on here where trying to help you and you were the one standing in the way of your success with the calendar. If you had made your position on google clear from the beginning we would not have tried to solve this issue with you. You could have least have a smidge of class and thank us before subjecting us to your rant on google.

If you had said you could not get the calendar to sync because you hate google and refuse to give them your info, it would have been helpful in the beginning. Trust me, nobody cares what you have on your calendar least of all google. All of this and now you say you might use gmail? Think google does not know every word in your gmail emails?

I have repeatedly thanked people through this thread for their help.

You have not read the thread properly.

All I have wanted to find out is why MY calendar is not working on MY phone that I have just bought for ?300 PERIOD.

Through the help of Treknologist we have ascertained that it is because although I have a google account that I acquired by accident from signing up to a youtube account with my own email I am not allowed to use the calendar on MY phone that I paid $400 for unless I sign up for a new google Gmail .

Which is Ludicrously stupid.

That is when my rant started and I'm quite justified to do so.
