HELP: S3 doesn't turn on, keeps flashing "Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-i9300"

We'll need to know the model number/carrier/region (if an International user).

Hi GSDer

I"m just getting the Samsung flash again and again on my Samsung NOTE 1(one) GT-N7000, I've never got into any factory mode or recovery or boot mode, because files I got in the phone is very important for me. I updated my phone to Jelly bean before 7 or 8 months. My phone is in perfect condition, I dropped about 18 months ago once and suffered no damage. It's an Unlocked international version bought in the UK (amazon). My phone switched off all of a sudden while I was on a call, and never was able to turn it on, It keeps showing the Samsung start-up sign again and again. Apart from Samsung, I can see the charging sign whenever I plug it. Please help me fix

Many Thanks

Additional Information
I had around 1 to 2 GB free space (among 12 GB) external and only 14 to 34 mb free space (among I think 2 GB) internal.

Earlier I've tried installing sd card, but my phone never recognized.

I hope your figures are reversed - you should never let the free space drop below 1GB on the internal storage - the OS appears to be very finicky about this and people have reported similar OS crash behavior when this happens.

You could try booting into Recovery mode and clearing the system cache.

Next would be to try booting into Safe mode http://support.verizonwireless.com/support/devices/knowledge_base.html/59242 - if that works immediately backup any important information; then clean up your storage situation.

Hello. I have the same problem and tried everything of the above, but after typing device's model name and the S/N I press OK button and it cames up saying that " 'GT-I9300' does not support initialising". Can please anyone tell me what to do next?
It's a 16Gb GT-I9300, I'm not sure about the region, but it was bought 1,5 ago in China. About a month ago I dropped it and now it has a crack starting from the home button and up through the screen, but I presume, there was nothing wrong with the screen, as it worked well.

Thanks a lot for your fast response and your friendly welcome, your advice will help millions who are disparate for help.

I don't know ways to keep the memory below 1GB. because my phone in total got 16GB + an option for external sd (my attempts to install an external sd was not recognized by my phone)
The case is I don't know where 2 GB is gone, the phone itself partitioned the available 14GB space with 1.97 GB internal and 12 GB external. Despite having more than 2 GB free space in the 12 GB external part, my attempts to move some movable apps showed "no enough storage space".

Please share a link that would explain "booting into Recovery mode and clearing the system cache". I will try doing it and then boot it in safe mode. Please also share me how to back up the files.

Additional information:
I'm not sure of the software version, but I believe my phone is with ICS not Jelly bean. My phone was released prior to S III, I did a recommended software update by manufacturer.

http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_note_n7000-4135.php is the exact model I have.

Many Thanks

Here's a summary of Recovery mode and Download mode:
- you use Recovery mode to clear the system cache and to Factory Reset
- you use Download (aka Odin) mode (showing the Android guy) to load/reload firmware
- the key sequences to enter both modes are very similar, and they are timing dependent so it may take a few tries to get it working
-- Recovery = Volume Up + Home + Power
-- Download = Volume Down + Home + Power
- for either, you start with the phone completely off
- press and hold the required keys simultaneously, and release them all when you feel the vibration.

Try Recovery mode (use the Volume rockers to navigate; use the Power button to select) and if it boots into this mode just clear the cache and then restart.

Guess I'd have to see screenshots of Settings -> Storage to make any sense out of that, so we'll have to get the phone working first.

Hello Folks,

I am facing similar issue. I received an update to Android 4.3 about 2 weeks ago and since my phone is behaving weird. Most of the times, it goes into dead-lock mode flashing Samsung S3 GT - i9300 screen.

Unfortunately, I cannot take my phone to Samsung as it is out of warranty. I tried pressing "power+volume down and home screen" button, it displays the warning message where in I can either press Volume Up to proceed or Volume down to cancel - in both of the options, phone again goes back into dead-lock flashing the samsung s3 gt logo. I have installed Kies and followed the instructions under "firmware upgrade and intialization" - it goes till the very end of the scKies.jpgreen under which "start uppgrade" button is disabled. (See the attached screen shot)

Any help is appreciated!

Welcome to the forums!
I have installed Kies
Did you install Kies v3? If not, you'll want to uninstall Kies v2.6 and reinstall Kies v3 (it's required for phones with 4.3 or greater).

If for some reason Kies does not pan out you can use Odin (just Google it - look for v3.07) and download the firmware here - select your device in the drop-down list in the upper left corner, then mouse-over the region codes (easier to do on a computer) until you find your country/carrier.

Thanks! I have installed Kies ver 3.2/ Should I go to a lower version? I also tried using Odin ver 3.07, Odin is not able to find the phone.

No, that's fine.
I also tried using Odin ver 3.07, Odin is not able to find the phone.
Be aware that you want to select the PDA button and not the Bootloader button.

You are putting the phone in Download mode (Home + Volume Down + Power) before you connect it to your computer?

You mentioned in your earlier post that the phone wouldn't stay in Download mode - if you take the battery out of the phone and then reinsert it, does the phone power up on its own?

Only my clear cache works, If I select the recovery mode (1st option), It keeps flashing the samsung logo, It doesn't go beyond.

Guess I'd have to see screenshots of Settings -> Storage to make any sense out of that, so we'll have to get the phone working first.

I'm still unable to get my phone switch on. Factory reset would be my last option, as I cannot afford to loose my data inside.

Hello guys , My Samsung Galaxy S3 started doing this last night , it was normallly fine until it turned off. Tt ried turnin it back on but nothing happened , 1 out of 20 tries it did. I toguht it was the battery so i charged it , it lit up the charging screen and then nothing. Now it turns on but when it get to the samsung logo screen , it turns off after a couple seconds , wont get past that. Already tried the Recovery mode and cannot get it to show up , i've aslo tried the download mode , it shows up , i hit download and then after a couple seconds it turns off. Can any of you guys help?

Welcome to the forums!
then after a couple seconds it turns off
The same question applies to you that I ask everyone else who states that the phone is turning off by itself in Download mode - if you take the battery out and reinsert it, does the phone power on by itself?

Only my clear cache works
Well, it's a good sign that SOMETHING works.

You're going to have to try reloading the firmware using a tool called Odin (just Google it - look for v3.07). You'll also need to download the firmware for your phone, which can be found here - select your device in the drop-down list in the upper left corner and mouse-over the region codes (this is easier on a real computer) until you find your country/carrier.

yes it does
If it's turning on by itself when you remove the battery and reinsert it then there's most likely something wrong with the Power switch on the mainboard. You're going to have to correct that issue before we can deal with the rest of the problem.

Hey,

Not the phone does not go into download mode. If I do take out the battery and put it back (after waiting for some time) - the phone goes back into flashing mode and displays me samsung GT logo. it does not start-up Can I somehow forcefully push the phone into download mode?

It is an Unlocked International version, it was a replacement phone from the insurer in the UK, For now I'm using it in India, where usually no phone is locked to any network. And I have selected my country now and found a firmware. (The latest OS update was done in India only)

My query is for:
" You're going to have to try reloading the firmware using a tool called Odin (just Google it - look for v3.07). You'll also need to download the firmware for your phone "

Should I download Odin v3.07 to my computer and connect the phone to my computer to upgrade the firmware using Odin v3.07?
If so, can I put the phone on Download mode - "press and hold the Volume Down and Home and Power buttons simultaneously, and release them all after the Samsung splash screen and connect the phone to PC with the USB cable?

And is it OK to select the firmware version that is currently available in India?

And what will happen to my data "especially inbox messages, photos, internet browser bookmarks and saved web pages" if I try to reload the firmware?

Sorry for the long question

Many thanks
