That's strange, but oh well - you can try using a tool called Odin to load the firmware manually. See post #93 for a link on how to use Odin - it's the fourth sub-heading in the article that says something about loading manually. NOTE: DO NOT USE THE FIRMWARE REFERENCED IN THAT ARTICLE! Instead, you can look here - select your device in the drop-down list in the upper left corner, then mouse-over the region codes (this is best done on a real computer) until you find your country/carrier and download that firmware.

Hello everyone,

Some great advice on here. Thanks. I will try to describe my problem as fully as possible. Sorry its a long story...

I have a problem with my galaxy sIII. It repeatedly turns on and off, it displays the samsumg logo momentarily before powering down. Occassionally it displays the start up screen, but only for a split second and it won't allow me to do anything in this screen before it powers down.

I am able to open the recovery mode and I have cleared the cache partition and rebooted multiple times. I am also able to enter download mode without it switching off.

Prior to this, the phone was working ok. I had not recently installed any apps. The only thing that preceeded the event was that I was using the sat nav for a long car journey that completely depleted the battery. Then I tried to use it whilst it was still plugged into the charger. I have a repair envelope on the way to send the phone to samsung, but I am desperate to recover my photos before I do this. Is there any way to retrieve photos from a phone that is turned off? If I attempt to use odin or similar, then I believe that samsung will also refuse to fix my phone, is this correct? If I were to factory reset the phone, would this mean that I could never retrieve my photos?

Any help deeply appreciated.

Not unless the pictures are stored on an SD card. The phone has to be fully booted, and any lockscreen dealt with in order to get content from the phone.

No, if you load the stock firmware they will be none the wiser. Of course, that'll probably solve your problem so you won't need to go that route.

It'll erase the contents of the internal memory, which is where your pictures are stored if you don't have an SD card. (Even if you have an SD card pictures aren't stored there by default, although the Camera app normally prompts you if it detects an SD card.)

If you reload the same version of firmware that you currently have on the phone, chances are good that your pictures will still be there, but there are no guarantees.

hi there bro. now. Here's the thing I have a samsung galaxy S3 mini and it keeps rebooting at the "samsung s3 mini" logo. i can get to download mode and recovery mode. so. it's not the power button. and i've tried everything (i think) i've updated the software, erase the cache. and loaded the stock firmware with odin. now, here's the thing... i loaded a stock firmware from some link on a youtube video.. i mean.. it is a stock firmware. but i don't know the carrier or region from this firmware... anyway it keeps doing the same over and over.. now the question... does the carrier or region of the firmware matter?? looks like my cellphone is french.. the back of the box says "www.samsung.com.fr" it's an unlocked cellphone.. i'm using it on venezuela. so sorry for my bad english hope you can help me..

does the carrier or region of the firmware matter?
It can make a difference in the basic setup of the phone (default language; preset carrier information; bloatware; etc) but beyond that I can't say - I only know enough to be dangerous.

You should look here - select your device in the drop-down list in the upper left corner, then mouse-over the region codes until you find your country/carrier.

If Odin reports that the firmware loaded correctly but you still have the boot issue then you may have to look for a JTAG service locally.

mmmh I've already tried with odin.. i'll give it a chance with Kies and see what happens. it's weird.. it should've solve the problem already. do you think it could be a hardware problem? it all begin with a software update and Then POW! Rebooting endlessly. Anyway I'll let you know. This is my last try and hope.

It is weird - if Odin runs to completion with no errors that usually does solve the problem. It's possible that you have a HW problem, but it's very coincidental that it went bad right after a firmware update.

Do you have the Odin log?

Bummer. I guess you could sell it for parts (the screen is still usable and people are always breaking them).

Did you find nothing useful in the 114 posts above yours?
Perhaps you could start with your model number/carrier/region (if an International user); what version firmware was on your phone; the circumstances under which the problem occurred; whether the phone charges normally if it's completely off; etc.

Did exactly the above but when I reached the last stage (Kies software should start downloading the correct firmware..), it just said that the device cannot be upgraded. Err next step please?

Um, more information please?

What model/carrier/firmware/region (if an International user)?

Which version of Kies are you using?

Does the phone boot into Recovery mode and/or Download mode?

Well, since yesterday my Galaxy S3 can't turn on, just keeps flashing S3's logo. I have read a lot of threads here in this forum, but I could not conclude anything. The cellphone doesn't respond, if I press for long time power+home button, nothing happens. If I take the battery off and try to turn it on again, it is the same still keep restarting n showing samsung logo.
I went to phone retail shop, they told me if it is a software problems they can use the software to turn the phone on, but if it is not on, means the phone is gone.

I don't know where you got your information but Home + Power doesn't do anything.

Volume Up + Home + Power = Recovery mode
Volume Down + Home + Power = Download (aka Odin) mode

Be sure to start with the phone completely off.

Hi guys,

First of all I want to say this forum is very helpful, I was resigned to buying a new phone until I read this thread. I'm currently at work so I can't attempt to connect my phone to my PC. However I've noticed a little difference in my phone's problem that so far I haven't seen mentioned.

-Samsung s3 keeps flashing when battery in and not charging. Pretty similar to everyone so far BUT
- When my phone is plugged in charging it flashes and empty battery with a grey loading/buffering-esque sign in the middle.
-When I hold Vol Down, Power, and Home buttons I get the to download stage but cannot get any further (ie. it tells me to press volume up to get further but this doesn't work). This also reverts to the original flashing after the same time length it normally takes between flashing.
-Vol Up, Power and Home buttons allows me to make it to the Samsung s3 flashing screen when charging, when not charging yields no benefits

I got the phone recently, its an unlocked GT 19300 version. and have very few apps/photos/videos on it, but it was bought 2nd hand. I had it working perfectly two nights ago until it ran out of battery and when I plugged it in the flashing battery started. What do you think the problem is? Any help is greatly appreciated

Hello and welcome to the forums!

If you take the battery out and reinsert it, does the phone turn itself on (without you pressing the Power button)?
