HELP: S3 doesn't turn on, keeps flashing "Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-i9300"

Yeahh i was trying them. After many attempts i did manage to reinstall the firmware, and do a factory reset. The phone then worked fine for a couple of hours before playing up again XD. Im beginning to think it may be a problem with the battery. I am thinking this as currently my phone is dead and charging, and the battery logo keeps flicking from empty to slightly charged.

Hi, I am encountering an error while in the "Proceed to firmware emergency recovery" part. My phone keeps on going out of the "downloading... do not turn off target!!!" and it just goes to the charging screen flickering from an empty battery to a slightly charged battery on the screen. please help!

You probably need to have a battery with much better charge on it. Let it charge for a couple of hours, or borrow another battery, and try again.

I have the same problem of the phone restarting and getting stuck on the "samsung Galaxy GT..." logo...and after that it keeps rebooting...but luckily, when i keep pressing the power button on for a few seconds the phone comes back to life....but the problem of the restart keeps happening every now and then....
please help me with what to do....i know that you have stated many ways of solving it but my problem is a bit different as i can still use my phone with this problem...i face it only at times (more often recently)...
moreover if i re download the firmware via the download mode using kies, will i lose all my data like in factory reset?

Yes, you will. So, to prepare for that, while your phone is working you should use Kies to make a backup. Follow the steps for installing Kies; run it once so that it updates; then connect your phone and let the drivers install (be sure your phone is running normally; not in Download mode).

Once the drivers have installed Kies will (finally) recognize your phone and show the model number, your phone number and current firmware information.
Select the Backup tab, check all of the items and start the backup. This will backup your contacts, SMS/MMS, pictures/videos, call logs, local music and TouchWiz settings (well, most of them).

Once you've done that you can follow the remaining instructions on reloading the firmware, and you don't even have to put the phone into Download mode.

If you want to backup your apps and app data (game progress, etc) then BEFORE you follow the steps to reload the firmware you could use something like Helium: http://market.android.com/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup to make a backup to your SD card (or the cloud if you pay for the Premium version).

Reloading firmware through Odin will wipe your device, but I don't think Kies will do that. Not positive, though.

If you haven't already, try booting into recovery and clear cache. It might help, and won't hurt anything.

HI, i have just read your reply to the early person's problem, and weirdly i have the exact same problem, the SAmsung GT logo keeps blinking on the screen, and on top of this the handset will not charge nor will it connect to a computer,
so I have followed the instructions you have given to the previous user, where i held power button, home, and volume down, - now a Warning has come up, i just wanted to ask, if i am to click Volume Up? what does this mean, what is a custom OS and will I lose my phone memory data?
Please could you reply asap, Thank you so much
regards

My T999 has the same problem. After a couple months of the random reboots, it now won't stay powered for more than 5 or 6 seconds. It doesn't matter if I do a normal boot, a recovery boot, or a download mode boot. It always cuts power after 5 seconds or so (so I can't get beyond the Samsung logo, the blue "booting recovery" text or "warning, a custom OS...." I've swapped batteries and they are all fully charged, it doesn't make a difference. I'm rooted on stock 4.2.1. I've never had anything but stock on this phone. Any ideas?

Hi,

I am having the same problem, This started a couple of hours ago I have followed GSDer's tips and I have managed to "Install or update the firmware" according to the software, however the same problem kept repeating itself. Any Ideas to y ?

Also Looks like everyone managed to enter download screen - which is the recovery mode according to the Kies software (is this correct?)
and every one managed to stop the flashing by restarting or taking off and on the battery

However my problem is very tedious

> Phone started flashing the Galaxy S3 Screen (the same one in normal booting)

>Tried restarting the Phone and after almost loading the next image (flashing blue SAMSUNG logo) it started flashing again

>The battery had almost died (I discovered this problem as I was rushing to charge my phone) Connected the phone to the charger, the charging in progress and the percentage battery logos started flashing alternating between the two

>(and then it started) Knowing about both recovery and hard reset, tried hard reset. At the instant the 3D android guy shows up, Galaxy S3 screen starts flashing

>Charged phone for a while thinking it's a battery problem, charging seems to work as the percentage increases however kept alternate flashing between battery charging and percentage logo

>Unplugged and started fiddling around again, trying the recovery mode and the hard reset, (this is where I noticed) whatever happens every 5 seconds the screen will flash. This is making it very hard to go into any of the modes

>Hundreds of times tried to restart phone, removing battery, restarting phone from the recovery mode, no progress flashing won't stop

>Found this post and followed the guy's tips in installing Kies and updating the firmware: to do this since it kept flashing between screens I had to; wait for a blank screen between the Galaxy S3 screen, hold Power, home & vol. down button; and loading the android logo pressing up while the screen is on download connect to cable with laptop and take off the battery, the screen locks on download and for some amazing reason the Start Upgrade button flashed, I pressed it and started loading. (Sadly the Start Upgrade button will not do this again after several more attempts)
- more problems with Kies software
.Using Mac
.Laptop never recognized the phone
.I don't understand if it can install the drivers and compile without even knowing if my phone is connected
.If the phone flashes (because the battery is still in place) a message pops up saying "your phone was disconnected"
.I have never connected this phone to my mac

Could I request a little more details about the problems everyone is having, and If or not anyone has tried and what works, don't and why we believed failed, the persons demanding help in this thread are not including a lot of details unlike the ones who are giving suggestions, both sides would be very helpful. I thank everyone for the help, all of this was very helpful so far.

I please Comment or Suggest on my post, I would like to save the data on my phone but I won't mind trying anything else that would erase my data but give me my working phone back.

Glvmal,
Did you forget the kitchen sink? :p

Did your problems start during a firmware update?

Can you list the model number/carrier/region/firmware version?

If you put the phone into Download mode does it stay there or restart on its own?

I am in the same boat as you with my GS3 - T-Mobile T999. I am at the stage where I am trying to perform a Firmware recovery via Kies. However, since the problem with the phone is that it randomly enters a boot loop, it does it in Download mode and I can never complete the firmwar e recovery.

Can I charge the battery in my phone while it is stuck in the Download mode?

GSDer,
Problems started earlier I just tried a firmware update before getting to this forum

My model number is the GTI-9300, Crarrier O2, Region not quite sure what that is but the phone was bought in nigeria, and as for the firmware version could you help me out in identifying it bearing in mind I cannot connect the phone to anything

If I put my phone to download the phone restarts on its own after few seconds

If the phone is put in recovery mode it restarts on its own after few seconds, there is one way of stopping it from doing so it's while connected to the laptop taking out the battery

Now I have another problem, as I believed the phone was under international warranty I took it to an official retailer however the engineer said that the warranty is voided because the phone doesn't have an official software installed? and yes after waiting for over one week, when I asked if i could pay for it to be repaired the person at the desk said "I don't know if it could be repaired".

I knew about the unofficial software, but I don't really think that this has anything to do with the problem, could you advise If this intermittency is caused by a software or hardware problem, looking at the video of the sticky power button you'd think it makes sense, however this didn't help me at all

Technician report said - Actual fault found:- Will not power on, and the rest explains that the warranty is voided, could I install the official software in this position?

Mine has started doing the exact same thing. I have an android event. It has not been dropped or damaged in any way. I had problems with it last week, freezing and rebooting and solved it by taking out the battery. but today this has now started again. Seriously fed up with the problems with my phone lately, which I loved until a couple of weeks ago. If anyone has any fixes for this problem I'd be very grateful for them

This makes it sound like the Power switch may be at fault - even when most things are buggered up, Download mode is usually reliable. Since they're saying the phone is out of warranty, if you can find someone local that can simply remove the existing Power switch, that'll prove if the switch is causing the reboot behavior (you can still turn it on by plugging the charger in momentarily). The switches are cheap on eBay or you could use a service like http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-power-button-repair/
could I install the official software in this position?
Not while this constant reboot behavior is occurring. Once that problem is solved then we can look at getting the right firmware on there.

BTW, you're with O2 in the UK?

my Galaxy S3 can't turn on, just keeps flashing S3's logo. It has a crack on the screen tried everything. power, volume and Up = a dummy generator. do i need to have my sim card in the phone when performing this???

Princess Noa,
Despite the cracked screen does everything display ok?

Are you able to boot into Recovery mode? What about Download mode?
If you're not familiar with that:
- you use Recovery mode to clear the system cache and to Factory Reset
- you use Download (aka Odin) mode (showing the Android guy) to load/reload firmware
- the key sequences to enter both modes are very similar, and they are timing dependent so it may take a few tries to get it working
-- Recovery = Volume Up + Home + Power
-- Download = Volume Down + Home + Power
- for either, you start with the phone completely off
- press and hold the required keys simultaneously, and release them all when you see the swirling logo (not the static white text)

Try Recovery mode first (use the Volume rockers to navigate; use the Power button to select) and if it boots into this mode just clear the cache and then restart. If the phone doesn't boot normally then try Download mode and let us know if that worked.

We'll also need to know your model number/carrier (and region if you're an International user).

Well, since yesterday my Galaxy S3 can't turn on, just keeps flashing S3's logo. I have read a lot of threads here in this forum, but I could not conclude anything. The cellphone doesn't respond, if I press for long time power+home button, nothing happens. If I take the battery off and try to turn it on again, nothing happens. I am really desperated and I need help!!

The phone is not rooted, and is updated with the last Jelly Bean available (4.2.1).
I have filmed a short video, just to illustrate what is happening: https://www.dropbox.com/s/e5adyps2mlf7xid/20130905_124432.mp4 (as you can see, its screen is really ugly. I have dropped it more then a year ago, so I guess this problem is not related to this drop).
I have not tried to hard reset it, because I still have hope to recover the all the info. Is it possible to recover this informations? Is it possible to recover the cellphone???

Thanks!
You would be surprised to know that this has nothing to do with your software and you most probably don't need to flash your device and stuff. Its just an issue with your power button. Take a friend's S3 and switch it off. Then keep holding the power button for 30 seconds. You will see the exact same thing that's happening with your device.
This video helped me fix it. Hope this helps you too !
