Hey guys I need some help or info on how to watch movies on the HTC one. I had a movie on iTunes then drag & dropped into my dropbox. I then downloaded the app dropbox on my phone and tried to play it but nothing happens. The format of the movie is m4v. Is there anyway I can somehow watch this movie? Any help I'd appreciate it...

It might have some kind of protected DRM code to prevent it from being copied or moved, but you could try mx player free from the playstore, another thing did you try to copy it to a desktop/laptop computer.

More than likely your movie is DRMed, which means it is locked down by Apple to only play via iTunes on your computer or on your iPhone. This is part of why I refuse to use any Apple products. I don't like their walled garden.

Here is a quote from the wiki for m4v filetype which you might find helpful:

"The M4V file format is a video file format developed by Apple and is very close to the MP4 format. The differences are the optional Apple's DRM copy protection, and the treatment of AC3 (Dolby Digital) audio which is not standardized for the MP4 container.

Apple uses the M4V files to encode TV episodes, movies, and music videos in the iTunes Store. The copyright of M4V files may be protected by using Apple's FairPlay DRM copy protection. To play a protected M4V file, the computer needs to be authorized (using iTunes) with the account that was used to purchase the video. However, unprotected M4V files without AC3 audio may be recognized and played by other video players by changing the file extension from ".m4v" to ".mp4". Under QuickTime, M4V video with FairPlay attached to it is identified as AVC0 Media." (M4V - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Yeah I hate apple... So what do I do next after I download mxplayer? And if I don't download mxplayer I won't be able to watch it? Do I need to convert the movie to a different format?

No providing there is no DRM code MX player will play it,i have 500 movies on my secondary drive, with all types of comprssion/file ext and everyone has worked on mx player on my phone.

how do i determine if its drm protected?

I can almost guarantee that it is DRMed based on what you have described so far. But, try to play the movie on your computer using something like VLC.

Also, you can try renaming the file by changing the extension to ".mp4" and then try to play the movie.

If this is a commercial copyrighted film that you purchased on iTunes, its DRMed.

Yeah I bought the movie the avengers, and it came with a digital copy code. So most likely it's drm? How can I change the format to mp4? All I want to do is watch the movie on ny phone haha haha someone please help... What are my best options?

Its DRM! I have a program at home, forgot the name, but if you buy it off itunes, it will rip the DRM for ya (sorry mod if this is inappropriate!) but it cost me about $30 but well worth it! Especially if your going to transfer the video to a tablet, phone, lap top, etc.....I will let ya know what it is! Only downside it takes about an hr per movie well that was only my old old old macbook!
