Hi. I'm David. I switched to android, and wish I never did.

I agree that's awesome

My GS2 had that feature too. Was very cool, but you can just wave your hand over the GS4 to answer or dismiss calls. Pretty cool.

The best feature in my opinion in the S4 is the air view and I loved the hold up to your ear to make phone call with the S3

Ya, some pretty strange stuff coming out these days.

Go buy a windows phone. What do you think android is about? User customization, not simplicity.

Isn't it ironic, don't you think, that Windows Phones mirror the "walled garden" design philosophy of Apple computers, in stark contrast to the "open gate" design philosophy Microsoft Windows has always been so famous for... And yet Android devices - which technically run Linux in the background - now mirrors the design the design philosophy of Microsoft Windows, except in one's hand!

I've been waiting to write this for a few days now, and thought I'd join this forum and express my opinion and hear what you guys all have to say.

I switched to android. I ******* hate it.

I have been an iPhone user since day one. Yup, that ****ty metal, heavy, 2g device. I've never used another phone (as my everyday) since than. Sure, I've played with phones and used some for weeks at a time (I used to work at AT&T), but the iPhone was always my go to.

Recently, the S4 and the ONE came out. The specs, and hype, the marketing.... really intrigued me. I said, "You know what? **** it. I'll get an android. These phones are top notch, and they have more features than I know what to do with, I want to switch". For the past 2 years, I've been complaining that Apple is.... BORING.... LACKING INNOVATION.... EXCLUDING SIMPLE FEATURES.... ETC. Trust me, I am NOT a Apple fanboy. I complain PLENTY about how the iPhone should have specific features (as simple as A SCREEN BRIGHTNESS CHANGER WITHOUT HAVING TO GO INTO THE SETTINGS). Trust me, I know how it is guys... Finally, I made the switch.

I bought this S4. From AT&T. Man, it's a sexy phone. Sleek. Big display. GORGEOUS display. Removable battery, added storage, quad core, the list goes on. This phone on paper, is unbelievable. But that's where it stops.

Immediately beginning to use this phone (as my everyday) I release how.... laggy it is.... how complex it is.... how it has features that are simply ******* STUPID. I'm moving around this QUAD CORE device with 2GB of ram and noticing just suttle lag all over the place. In the menu, in apps, etc. I'm realizing that the fact that my finger DOESNT NEED TO TOUCH THE DISPLAY FOR IT TO STILL TRIGGER I TOUCHED IT, annoys the hell out of me. I realize all this stupid bloatware from the manufacturer / att (yes i know about rooting, and I did that later).

I miss my iPhone.

Moving around android just annoys me. Its too detailed. There are WAY too many options. The flexibilty and the customization options are INSANELY overdone. The phone is powerful. The phone is ultimately designed to make it how YOU want it, but it goes too far. I miss my iPhone.

I miss the simplicity. I miss the smoothness. I miss the fact that everything, just, worked. I dont know. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm close minded. But Android overall, seems to be just trying to hard to stand out.

All I want in a phone... is a phone... that just works. Smoothly. Take out all this bull**** that is added in these days... take out all the features that obviously NO ONE will use, and focus on the usability/reliability of the device. Focus on what the user ULTIMATELY will be using. Take out the bull****. Make it straight forward. Why do these manufacturers push so far to 'customize' their devices claiming it gives the 'ultimate experience'? No it doesn't... it bloats the phone and makes it overwhelming.

Ok, I'm dont ranting. I'm curious to hear what you guys have to say. Any of you iPhone divorces? Would love to understand what you think about these new phones. I'm willing to give it a shot, but I'm unsure....

My friend, there are 3 kinds of phone users in the world today. 1st apple users, 2nd android users and lastly 90's classic phone users. Android is just not for you and for the record Samsung galaxy s4 is their stupidest phone release in my opinion. It was just a market share strategy, nothing more. Try getting a simple android phone with features attractive to you if your willing to give it one more shot.

HTC One>galaxy>iPhone

I felt the same about the S4, freezing, apps stopping, unexpected errors. IPhone uses are a spoiled bunch and I can relate. But once I exchanged the S4 for an HTC one I could never go back to ios, why?it's the android equivalent of ios stability. I don't want to knock the S4 but coming from an iPhone 5 I really enjoy the smoothness and stability of ios but maybe it wasn't the right android device, for you as it wasn't for me, just sayin. Now my 5 is my part time iPod when my one is charging :D

This is a really helpful message. Not all Android based devices are the same and it's very useful to know which ones might be the best entry acclimation devices for people from other platforms. It's definitely not all about specs, it's about total UX and from that front, I think HTC or Nexus are the strongest two contenders at the moment.

Having recently switching from an iPhone 5 to a Nexus 4 I have been struggling to put into words how I feel. I now have no need to, you have wrote EXACTLY how I feel about Android. After having an iPhone 2g, 3g, 4 and 5, I miss the simplicity way to much.

Simple if you don't like something avoid it. I can't stand the iphone yet I don't go around bashing people or posting negative threads about it. Iphone is for people who want simplicity and android for top dogs who know how to use a real phone. There are so many options out there that you don't have to stick with one phone. Bigger screens, 4g lte for most, not having to use itunes to put music on my phone is great and the best thing customization on almost everything android can offer. Can't see myself using other type of os.

It's all well and good saying that but how will you know if you don't like it if you don't give it a go? Thousands of Android fanboys wouldn't touch an iPhone and thousands or iPhone fanboys would touch an Android phone. Some will give it a go, and you can't say fairer that that tbh. I now have first hand experience and can honestly say, I don't like it. But that's my opinion, everyones different.

I was an iphone user from the beginning. Went from a 4 to the samsung galaxy s3. My only complaint was battery life. I went to iphone 5 and felt like I was holding a brick. Missed so many features of the Gs3 that I traded the iphone5 for a gn2 on craigs list. It takes getting used to. I feel the difference is this.....
IOS is if you dont want to mess with things just plug and go
Android is if you like to tinker. Make it your own world.
Droid has more to offer if you want to take time to learn.
Either system is good.
My husband has iphone 4s. Loves it. But he doesnt tinker. I love gadgets. I love change.

Using the wonderful and amazing Samsung Note 2

I completely agree with that, although there is the odd exception to the rule ;) I am one, haha. I love tinkering, i'm an IT engineer and I will take anything to pieces and love fixing electronics etc, but I just love the simplicity of an 'I' device. I even hated them when Jailbroken, to many themes and addons etc. You'd think I'd love Android with my line of work.

I must say I don't HATE Android, it has some great features. I just personally find it way to fussy.

As you said, it's all the bloatware. If you want a lag-free experience get an HTC One. Or a true Android phone like the Nexus 4.

I think that's the air view thing Samsung added that lets you perform actions without touching the screen. Disable that.

I miss my iPhone.

Take some time to get around Android. Once you figure it out, it'll be worth it. Try some of those guides linked in this thread.

Stock Android "just works". Again, it's all the bloat. Stock Android on the Nexus 4 is much simpler than the S4's TouchWiz or the One's Sense.

God, I'm sounding like an advertisement now. But if you start from a simpler, more aesthetically pleasing, smoother experience like stock Android, I think you'll be satisfied.

I'll probably get an easy to use iPhone when I turn 70 years old!! :D

Seriously the Nexus 4 isn't simple enough for you? Okay, well my suggestion is to try this theme https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...s?id=com.rennlab.adw.iphone.hd&token=P4-L1YkB

I set up my daughter's SGS2 and it looks just like an iPhone. Links to the basic things you need. But you can still add useful things like toggle widgets to your setup. I use Nova launcher with this wallpaper https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...asabi.livewallpaper.iphonedrop&token=U3dF-hAQ

Presto you have an iPhone.

Hope this helps a bit.

I just bought an iPhone 5 for my daughter about 2 weeks ago and the thing I really notice about the iPhone is how much it really doesn't do. After I turned it on and got it set up I kept asking myself if that was it. It seemed so lacking for me after using Android for so long. It felt like the iPhone was really just an app receptical and was more of a dumb phone than a smart phone.

That being said my daughter seems to like it so that's all that matters. But there have been numerous times where she has asked me to do something and I've said you can't do that on your iPhone. She used my SGS2 before she got the iPhone 5 and although she also said she liked that phone the pressure from young people to get an Apple product is like having the right kind of sneakers these days. Logic becomes secondary and the status of the device is more important.

I can honestly say in the 5 weeks I have had my Nexus I have not had the need to do anything an iPhone can't. The only thing I have done is flash the AOKP rom, they quickly reversed it when I couldn't use my banking app or use Sky Go because i was rooted. As I said it's just my feeling of the software, it's not massively complicated and I can find my way around it easily. But, to me, it just doesn't have that "it just works feel' as iOS does. I also find the look of all the apps to be really cheap and clunky, it doesn't have a premium feel. Don't get me wrong millions love Android and i'm not trolling or trying to force my opinion on anyone. It's just how I personally feel about it.

My biggest annoyance at the minute is trying to find a decent free app to turn the screen on when I get a message, facebook message, twitter message etc etc. Why was such a simple menu option not included? I miss so many messages at work with it being on silent.

Try Go SMS with Light Flow. You can get a pop up when you get texts with Go SMS and the have a nice iphone style theme. Light Flow allows you to create custom colors for you LED notifications so you can use blue for Facebook, green for Twitter etc. This let's you see what's coming in very easily. You would have to upgrade to the full version to make it work for all your apps but it may be worth it for you.

Cheers. You don't have to emphasise on the iPhone customisations you know ;) one of my reasons for swapping was for a break from iOS. I don't want to make it look the same, I fancied a change :) I'm just having a look at that Zooper widget you mentioned in another post.
