Hi. I'm David. I switched to android, and wish I never did.

Cheers. You don't have to emphasise on the iPhone customisations you know ;) one of my reasons for swapping was for a break from iOS. I don't want to make it look the same, I fancied a change :) I'm just having a look at that Zooper widget you mentioned in another post.
Cool, I think if you play a bit you will really get into it. I actually prefer those themes on my phone even though I am a bit of a iphone hater. Lol. They understand simple interface design. Check out www.mycolorscreen.com/badbrad if you want to check out some themes for your Nexus. I am just uploading a new tutorial for my latest theme and have included some tips on how to use Zooper widget which might help you.

the pressure from young people to get an Apple product is like having the right kind of sneakers these days. Logic becomes secondary and the status of the device is more important.

lol I've totally been there done that. My daughter and I have a running joke calling each other "fanboy" now :D

Simple if you don't like something avoid it. I can't stand the iphone yet I don't go around bashing people or posting negative threads about it. Iphone is for people who want simplicity and android for top dogs who know how to use a real phone. There are so many options out there that you don't have to stick with one phone. Bigger screens, 4g lte for most, not having to use itunes to put music on my phone is great and the best thing customization on almost everything android can offer. Can't see myself using other type of os.

I didn't see any bashing in the original post. How does he/she know they don't like it until they try it or read posts on the forum. As long as somebody lists reasons they don't like a phone, I find it extremely helpful. I can then decide if their reasons are relevant to me when looking at phones.

By the way, anything that makes and receives calls is a real phone.

After the first post is where the bashing came in. I'm afraid the OP probably won't come back to Android or Android Central. I fail to see how that helps anyone...

Like I want to make this clear to everyone... yes... Android offers 100x more functionality than iOS. BUT.... the whole 'smoothness' and 'reliability' factor of iOS just wins me over. I know I sound dumb as hell complaining about 'lag', but if a manufacturer pushes their product as TOP OF THE LINE and highlights the insane processor speeds, it shouldnt have lag. Android needs to figure out why their operating system continues to lack the smooth-factor that iOS has...

try waiting for an update... yea, the phone when it first comes out is going to be a little buggy. My note was when I first got it... little lag in places, now I have none.

Try vanilla android with a custom kernel and overclock it. Yea, vanilla kills any and all bloat, but you might not have features like the infrared or s beam....

I've been using android since the cupcake days (launch day of the g1 to be exact)... I couldn't imagine going elsewhere now.

I've been waiting to write this for a few days now, and thought I'd join this forum and express my opinion and hear what you guys all have to say.

I switched to android. I ******* hate it.

I have been an iPhone user since day one. Yup, that ****ty metal, heavy, 2g device. I've never used another phone (as my everyday) since than. Sure, I've played with phones and used some for weeks at a time (I used to work at AT&T), but the iPhone was always my go to.

Recently, the S4 and the ONE came out. The specs, and hype, the marketing.... really intrigued me. I said, "You know what? **** it. I'll get an android. These phones are top notch, and they have more features than I know what to do with, I want to switch". For the past 2 years, I've been complaining that Apple is.... BORING.... LACKING INNOVATION.... EXCLUDING SIMPLE FEATURES.... ETC. Trust me, I am NOT a Apple fanboy. I complain PLENTY about how the iPhone should have specific features (as simple as A SCREEN BRIGHTNESS CHANGER WITHOUT HAVING TO GO INTO THE SETTINGS). Trust me, I know how it is guys... Finally, I made the switch.

I bought this S4. From AT&T. Man, it's a sexy phone. Sleek. Big display. GORGEOUS display. Removable battery, added storage, quad core, the list goes on. This phone on paper, is unbelievable. But that's where it stops.

Immediately beginning to use this phone (as my everyday) I release how.... laggy it is.... how complex it is.... how it has features that are simply ******* STUPID. I'm moving around this QUAD CORE device with 2GB of ram and noticing just suttle lag all over the place. In the menu, in apps, etc. I'm realizing that the fact that my finger DOESNT NEED TO TOUCH THE DISPLAY FOR IT TO STILL TRIGGER I TOUCHED IT, annoys the hell out of me. I realize all this stupid bloatware from the manufacturer / att (yes i know about rooting, and I did that later).

I miss my iPhone.

Moving around android just annoys me. Its too detailed. There are WAY too many options. The flexibilty and the customization options are INSANELY overdone. The phone is powerful. The phone is ultimately designed to make it how YOU want it, but it goes too far. I miss my iPhone.

I miss the simplicity. I miss the smoothness. I miss the fact that everything, just, worked. I dont know. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm close minded. But Android overall, seems to be just trying to hard to stand out.

All I want in a phone... is a phone... that just works. Smoothly. Take out all this bull**** that is added in these days... take out all the features that obviously NO ONE will use, and focus on the usability/reliability of the device. Focus on what the user ULTIMATELY will be using. Take out the bull****. Make it straight forward. Why do these manufacturers push so far to 'customize' their devices claiming it gives the 'ultimate experience'? No it doesn't... it bloats the phone and makes it overwhelming.

Ok, I'm dont ranting. I'm curious to hear what you guys have to say. Any of you iPhone divorces? Would love to understand what you think about these new phones. I'm willing to give it a shot, but I'm unsure....

I'm a former iphone user but i left because the user experience wasn't very good, it was lacking severely.

You just simply can't get a good keyboard on an ios device unless you do some jailbreaking and tweaking. The default keyboard SUCKS, the screens are too small, you can't change your default app, you never really own an iphone, you simply lease it.

While I had it I LOVED it except for that bs keyboard so I switched. Best move ever.

And one thing you said that is wrong, the galaxy s 4 DOES just work.

Out the box, you don't have to tweak anything if you do not want to.

It's smooth, buttery smooth, and just simply works.

It's actually simpler than iOS which needs a huge face lift

I didn't like android at first, then I loved it. Nowadays to be honest, I really don't like Android. It's really bull**** how every phone doesn't get updates at the same time. I will just wait and see what fall has to offer, just wait and see...

Best reason by far to support Nexus.

Hey, I, like you, also made a switch to android very recently.
I come from iphone3g, I know very old
but instead of S4, I chose HTC ONE.
I noticed that the Sense UI is super fast without lag, and it's relatively simpler and cleaner than that of S4
Also I noticed that many people complained about Samsung's touchwiz, so you're not alone.

Or the Sony Xperia Z - I've got over 200 applications and a 64GB microSDXC memory card that is 1/3 full and no lag at all, not in the slightest...

Android covers way to many devices whereas ios doesnot thus giving it advantage of optimum compatability. Plus android suits experienced user and especially programmers. I lovemy android it gives mefreedom like no ios can give

Try Go SMS with Light Flow. You can get a pop up when you get texts with Go SMS and the have a nice iphone style theme. Light Flow allows you to create custom colors for you LED notifications so you can use blue for Facebook, green for Twitter etc. This let's you see what's coming in very easily. You would have to upgrade to the full version to make it work for all your apps but it may be worth it for you.

You don't even need Go SMS just Light Flow. It will turn on the screen, flash a message, make sounds and flash a light. If you still miss messages after installing this, it is on you. Be sure to read all Play Store info on the app while it's installing

Does light Flow get the text pop up like they were asking for?

Yes! It is the most awesome app ever. It will text pop up, turn on your screen, beep, whatever you want. I can't remember my colors so I actually have the debugger widget on my home screen which tells you what is active. I would be lost without that app and Power Toggles.

Yes, there are downsides to the fragmentation, but there are also upsides. How happy would you be if the only car you could buy was a Ford Taurus, with a choice of black or white paint? And once a year Ford gives you a new radio, and once a decade a new GPS that doesn't take you where you want to go. :) The "fragmentation" you speak of offers users a great many choices to buy the "car" that best suits you, and equip it with the options you want.

Apple says "You want leather interior? Sorry, we only offer 'Alcantara'." "You want a V8? Sorry, we know better than you do which engine you need."

That's a great analogy!

I've only owned android in my life but yeah I've used an iPhone. Therefore I can conclude that generally an iOS device is 'smoother' than an Android one.
As pointed out above this lag is usually due to unnecessary bloat and certain stock features.

Now this is where customzieability comes into play.
If you've used a samsung phone running JB 4.1 you'll see that the notification bar has certain hidden toggles which scroll from the right. This makes it lag. So what did I do? I set the samsung toggles to only 5(minimum) so they don't scroll. The rest of the toggles I've added via an app called Power Toggles. End result? Notification lag gone! http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/05/06/dy8epa8y.jpg

See the above pic.

Now I can fully sort it out by running a custom ROM which I'll end up doing later when I have the time. But this is wonderful as a temporary measure.
So I suggest that the OP gives more time to his device and tries to understand android before taking a final decision. AC and its forums are here for your help. Even then if you want to go back, then no body is stopping you. All I'm saying is people take a test drive of a car before deciding whether to purchase it or not.

Sent from my Note II

How do you remove all but five of the toggles?
