Hi. I'm David. I switched to android, and wish I never did.

I think a lot of research needs to be involved when picking a phone. You just can't go with what the commercials show you because it's not always the best for you. I say sell your galaxy and try another phone. If you want to go back to iPhone I don't blame you, but don't blame android on one phone.

There's an option on my note for notification toggles, you can remove as many as you want.

~swyped from a galaxy (note 2) far far away

Perfect! How do you get to that area to remove them? I only use like four or five at the most. I looked through the settings that I thought it would be under, but I can't find anything.

I stand corrected, I tried to remove them but you have to have ten in the stock settings. It is under display, notification panel though.

I used to be able to, but I think that was a feature of the rom I was using at the time.

Just download Power Toggles and be done with it. Set it up however you like. It's free and awesome and does so much more than just system toggles.

I gave up in the end. Two months with a Nexus 4 and I have gone back to an iPhone 5. I gave it a go but couldn't get on with Android.

David, Dont be mislead by the uniformed and useless comments about you need to adapt or go back to the simple UI of the Iphone. Your problem is not that you need to get accustomed to Adroid - its that you need to choose AOSP android and not the bloated inconsistent variants such as touchwiz. Unlike touchwiz, AOSP or vanilla android is not hard to adapt to.

I feel your frustration as my girlfriend recently received the S4 and it is truly painful and overwhelming to navigate. I have had android since the G1 and used nothing but android since then so I am accustomed to how android is supposed to work. Ive also had SGS and SGS2 which come default with touchwiz but as soon as an AOSP rom became available I switched. I mow have a N4 and N7 which of course are both running AOSP.

Android is known for being highly customizable which is one of the many things I like about the OS. However samsung and other oem's are sodomizing android and severely destroying the android experience. Not only is touchwiz laggy - yes on the brand new hyped S4 but the settings and menus are grossly inconsistent with AOSP android. It truly is clunky - a term I've often heard IOS users describe android. Now I hate IOS - but I finally see their point. If you are following me they are basing their experiences on the sodimized version of android - much of what you are experiencing now.

Touchwiz is Ugly, slow, bloated, inefficient, laggy, a navigational nightmare and the UI in inconsistent with AOSP android. Touchwiz does include a couple useful features such as multi window and air view but those are not not even close to enough to get me to switch to touchwiz. The other laundry list of features may initially sound cool and I do respect them as it shows the power of android but they are not practical. Maybe the air gestures if your hands are dirty and you need to air swipe to go to next page - but I dont see one using it very often. I hate being marketed to and Samsung and OEM's have done an excellent job at selling this bloatware to the masses! I not saying everyone should like one particular version but there is plenty of power in AOSP to get everything you could possibly want without reverting to sodomizing the OS. Well I have yet to see good multi window support outside of touchwiz which is one feature I would love to have but I refuse to sacrifice the plethora of advantages of AOSP just to gain one feature of touchwiz.

It's clear I hate touchwiz and its obvious others don't mind it - so I guess you can't miss or appreciate something you never experienced.

Just get an unadulterated Android phone so you can feel the true experience of Android!

I left Apple and wish I would have done it earlier. SEE YA APPLE GS4 all the way. I am glad to say I am an ANDROID FANBOY. :D :)

I ditched the phone 6 months ago and hated droid for the first two weeks then I got the hang of it and won't go back.

I am formerly an owner of the classic HTC Hero, followed by an iPhone 3GS, 4S, and now 5. Along with an iPad 1, 2 and 3.

I now feel like it's time to take the step back to Android. I loved Android with my Hero, I just felt that at that time it was quite laggy and not quite ready, and I went for the iPhone 3GS and at that time I felt it was the best phone/OS on the market. Unfortunately for Apple, we all know the rest, they failed to improvise, failed to capitalise and fell behind whilst the Galaxy range emmerged and really put Android to the top of the OS market.

I am currently selling my iPhone 5 and will be purchasing an S4, for two main reasons.

1. The big screen.
2. The more I can tweak, change and personalise ... the better.

Having read through these 7 pages, I just want to thank the OP for creating such a great discussion on this forum, it has served it's purpose very well for this convo alone. i would also like to thank the posters that have replied with good contributions to the subject, rather than the ones that have just told him to go find an iPhone forum somwerhe. It has allowed me to come on, register and read and read everything I need to know about the various phones such as S4, N4, HTC1 and so on.

I am looking forward to seeing how far android has come along since the Hero days (I think we were on version 2. something at that stage). Back when I used android last, the likes of facebook and twitter didnt even have proper apps I don't think...

Any advice on how to migrate across with minimal fuss, for contacts and other backups etc please let me know.

i went from years of blackberry including the Q10 (high hopes, huge letdown) to the HTC ONE after much research. typing on a virtual screen sucks compared to a physical keyboard. other than that, leaving BB for a true smart phone felt like walking into the future. only now i am with the present. i didn't realize how far behind we blackberry users had fallen choosing instead to defend my perceived need for a qwerty keyboard. i may get the iphone 5S but for now i am mostly content with my first android. i should add that a huge dealbreaker with the Q10 was the absence of 'delete on handheld only' when removing email. with the help of this forum, i found K-9 and couldn't be more pleased. good luck.

I've been with android since 09 once I got back to the states. I started with the droid 2, then and now I'm with the first Razr. I'm a motorola fan, been one since my first cellphone. I thought android was the bees knees and I could never see myself changing. But.....my razr has been lagging horribly, apps are always crashing, and its just been so unresponsive. I tap one app and another pops up. I try google search using the new interface and it takes 3mins to pull up results and an additional 3mins after tapping the link for it to open. Right now I'm deployed and my plan is suspended for the time being, but still my phone is slow and unresponsive. I've placed it in airplane mode, deleted useless apps and I only use it when I'm near wifi. Still the phone is crap and the battery is ready to bite the dust even after being off mostly all day. Everyone I know has an iphone and every chance I get I test out there's. Some have the 4s and others have the 5. The 4s is still fast after being out for so long and even with my friends iphone (with its cracked screen in all) still works like a champ. I'm sorry but even with the simplicity and non-customization the reliability of the Iphone is just incredible. I like the smooth and responsiveness of IOS. I'm sticking with my android for the rest of my deployment, but once I hit stateside....no scratch that, when I'm a day or two out from leaving this desert I'm ordering a 5s. Oh and don't no one say anything about the galaxy. I'm getting a ipad, so I don't need a damn phablet. I don't wear skinny jeans so the pocket space is not the issue. I'm not switching to indiana's style of rocking a satchel just to carry my phone with me.

Like I want to make this clear to everyone... yes... Android offers 100x more functionality than iOS. BUT.... the whole 'smoothness' and 'reliability' factor of iOS just wins me over. I know I sound dumb as hell complaining about 'lag', but if a manufacturer pushes their product as TOP OF THE LINE and highlights the insane processor speeds, it shouldnt have lag. Android needs to figure out why their operating system continues to lack the smooth-factor that iOS has...

Windows phone 8 sounds like a good choice for you , a lot more customizable than ios (live tiles) but no where close to android, the smoothness and reliability should be close to ios. In many ways Windows phone 8 is more simple than ios.

I am aware that some GS4s have a lag issue, specifically the CDMA versions (American versions) the rest of the world have the octacore versions.

Try the GS3 or HTC one or any other flagship Droid other than the GS4, you should see that lag is nonexistent. Perhaps try downloading a different launcher for the play store, you don't need to be rooted, NOVA and APEX are a good choice. Try those first.

To many options. My mind can't handle all these things a can do with my smartphone. I need Stevie J to help me think. I need someone to tell me what I like.

I think you should give android another chance, you'll just be wasting your money with the iPhone. You should try the Moto X, the whole lag issue is non existent now, particularly since jelly bean.

You're right. But I'm trying to give it a shot. I just am trying to understand why I am so comfortable with my iPhone... i got so many friends who use android and praise it... but cant give it. I'm shocked and pretty confused on why phones are pushing these 'QUAD CORE / OCTO CORE' processors, yet still have lag. It boggles my mind.

Honestly I want to hear from a user who switched from iPhone and explain their process.

You're just someone is who better suited to the simplicity of the iOS ecosystem like you clearly said. Nothing wrong with that. Many of the strengths of Android, the freedom, the variety, the endless custimizability, do not appeal to you.

That just means you're better suited for iOS. Nobody here really cares which system you prefer, only you should care since if affects you. You've tried Android and it's not your thing, not the only end of the world.

I've been waiting to write this for a few days now, and thought I'd join this forum and express my opinion and hear what you guys all have to say.

I switched to android. I ******* hate it.

I have been an iPhone user since day one. Yup, that ****ty metal, heavy, 2g device. I've never used another phone (as my everyday) since than. Sure, I've played with phones and used some for weeks at a time (I used to work at AT&T), but the iPhone was always my go to.

Recently, the S4 and the ONE came out. The specs, and hype, the marketing.... really intrigued me. I said, "You know what? **** it. I'll get an android. These phones are top notch, and they have more features than I know what to do with, I want to switch". For the past 2 years, I've been complaining that Apple is.... BORING.... LACKING INNOVATION.... EXCLUDING SIMPLE FEATURES.... ETC. Trust me, I am NOT a Apple fanboy. I complain PLENTY about how the iPhone should have specific features (as simple as A SCREEN BRIGHTNESS CHANGER WITHOUT HAVING TO GO INTO THE SETTINGS). Trust me, I know how it is guys... Finally, I made the switch.

I bought this S4. From AT&T. Man, it's a sexy phone. Sleek. Big display. GORGEOUS display. Removable battery, added storage, quad core, the list goes on. This phone on paper, is unbelievable. But that's where it stops.

Immediately beginning to use this phone (as my everyday) I release how.... laggy it is.... how complex it is.... how it has features that are simply ******* STUPID. I'm moving around this QUAD CORE device with 2GB of ram and noticing just suttle lag all over the place. In the menu, in apps, etc. I'm realizing that the fact that my finger DOESNT NEED TO TOUCH THE DISPLAY FOR IT TO STILL TRIGGER I TOUCHED IT, annoys the hell out of me. I realize all this stupid bloatware from the manufacturer / att (yes i know about rooting, and I did that later).

I miss my iPhone.

Moving around android just annoys me. Its too detailed. There are WAY too many options. The flexibilty and the customization options are INSANELY overdone. The phone is powerful. The phone is ultimately designed to make it how YOU want it, but it goes too far. I miss my iPhone.

I miss the simplicity. I miss the smoothness. I miss the fact that everything, just, worked. I dont know. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm close minded. But Android overall, seems to be just trying to hard to stand out.

All I want in a phone... is a phone... that just works. Smoothly. Take out all this bull**** that is added in these days... take out all the features that obviously NO ONE will use, and focus on the usability/reliability of the device. Focus on what the user ULTIMATELY will be using. Take out the bull****. Make it straight forward. Why do these manufacturers push so far to 'customize' their devices claiming it gives the 'ultimate experience'? No it doesn't... it bloats the phone and makes it overwhelming.

Ok, I'm dont ranting. I'm curious to hear what you guys have to say. Any of you iPhone divorces? Would love to understand what you think about these new phones. I'm willing to give it a shot, but I'm unsure....
I am aware that there's a lag issue on certain versions of the galaxy s4

You should have opted for the LG optimus G pro or G2

None of these 2 devices have features you wont need...if Android is to complex for you then try Windows phone 8 or go back to iPhone.
