Highlighting text in Chrome no longer brings up bottom bar to see search.

When I highlighted text in any webpage in Chrome, there was usually a little bar that pops up at the bottom with the same text on it, and I can pull it up to see a Google search of the same text. However, since I had a new phone, the little bar says "unable to connect to network". I'd really like to solve this. I had an Xperia 5 before, my current phone is an Xperia 1 iii.

Welcome to Android Central! Does this happen on both wi-fi and mobile data? Are you using a VPN?

Got a PM from the OP who was having problem replying in this thread: "It happens both on WiFi and on 4G. I don't use a VPN"

It doesn't even show the pull up bar thing in safe mode, I'm guessing because it is not online.

I think that feature is related to the Google app rather than Chrome. Go to Settings>Apps​, select the Google app, then Permissions, and see if any permissions are denied.

Hello guys, have you been able to solve this issue? I have the same issue on Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G, and managing permission for Google app didn't help. thanks for any tips or trics

Try going to settings in chrome and then go to privacy & security. Find use secure dns and change it to Google's. Maybe

Also try toggling touch to search setting off and back on. Chrome settings->Google services->touch to search.

Chrome settings -> google services -> tap search -> disable "wrapping surrounding text"
