It will replace whatever ROM you're currently using. The first step in flashing a new ROM is to do a nandroid backup... Then do a complete factory and system reset. That's the best way to avoid problems. I do a nandroid backup every week, just so I have my current setup saved... you never know when a problem might occur or what might cause it.
