Honeymoon Period

I'm still enjoying my Pixel 2. For various reasons, in no particular order, and I probably forgot some:

  • Doze, standby battery life is awesome
  • screen on time for a 2700 mAh battery is more than enough for me
  • Google Lens
  • camera speed and quality
  • easy to use with one-hand
  • Active Edge is more useful than I anticipated
  • quick performance, no noticable lag
  • haptic feels great...and this is usually the first thing I turn off on my phones
  • similarly, the vibration motor is strong and easy to notice
  • quick updates (I'm looking at you 8.1. Don't let me down here!)
  • fast reboots
  • simple and elegant Pixel Launcher (and this is coming from a very recent KLWP/Nova junkie)

What I don't like:
  • carrier subscription check when I try to tether with my unlocked Pixel (boo)
  • Google Assistant is wonky over Bluetooth. Wonky == doesn't work at all.
  • probably one or three things I forgot so they can't be that bad

I don't think there is any one thing that sets my Pixel 2 apart from any other flagship. It's just that the little things it does and does so well proves the old adage that the sum is greater than the parts. Like the awesome salsa I made last night.

Battery life is awesome. Despite size, very pocketable. I think the screen is just fine. Responsiveness is excellent.
I do miss the headphone jack. Have figured out some work arounds, but miss the convenience of simply plugging in ear phones.

Should you get this phone? If you are a Nexus/Pixel user? Yes. Don't think twice about it.

That was a great review! Thank you for sharing your feedback with us!

Still in my honeymoon phase. The 8.1 update has really improved the audio quality of my calls (that was really my only beef with the phone so far). Frankly, I have not enjoyed a phone so much since my beloved Lumia 1520. I find myself taking more pictures, I find myself using Google Assistant A LOT; I've just really enjoyed the experience on almost every level.

Ya, I paid almost 1200 for mine so it's too much of a hit 🤷

How did you end up spending "almost 1200" for a Pixel 2 XL? Aren't the 128GB ones going for $949 + tax?

Since you overpaid, saying all P2's are taking a 40% resale hit is not a fair statement.

You don't have the option to use visual voicemail? I love that

i downloaded visual voice mail a long time ago and deleted it for some reason. I downloaded it again just recently, but its not connecting for me.

I still don't have my voice mail setup. I did try again recently, but I'm getting a "something went wrong. We tried setting up your account, but couldn't. Visit att.com and confirm that your plan includes visual voicemail."

I've went to att once, and I called at least twice, and I wasn't able to set it up still. All I've done is be able to call 611 to reset my voice mail password, but that's not helping me at all. When I dial and hold 1, it goes to a men that eventually asks for my voice mail number, which I have no clue what is. They said its an 11 digit number that my brother generated(he's the owner of the ), but he has no idea what it is. I'm gonna have to go the store with my brother. This is so b.s.

Other than that, I'm loving the phone for the most part. Great pictures, really fluid OS, like the small touches like setting up calendar events and getting themes to them, as well as always listenin, and a few other things. The battery life before the 8.1 update has been great. I was consistently getting 5-6 hours of SOT for 48 hours without having to charge my phone. After the recent update though, seems like it drains more battery in the background. I regret downloading the update.

Having owned pretty much every Google phone, no surprises here after the honeymoon period. I know why I like the Google phones and over the last two generations has the best camera which pretty much took care of my only reservation with earlier Google phones.

So enjoying the phone as my daily driver even after the honeymoon period is over. I also switched to the panda color from the black 2 XL now that the panda color for unlocked version is readily available from the Google store

I switched from Galaxy S6 Edge on Friday after a lot of thought, research and worry. In the end it came down to trusting that Google makes good stuff and all the positive posts here. After 48 hours, I am thoroughly impressed with the Pixel 2.

So glad you are enjoying your Pixel 2! Did you keep your S6 Edge as a backup?
