How are the new radios?

I have not seen anyone post if there is a great improvement on the signal reception for the new radios. I am very curious since I tried the SGN before but ended up returning it due to poor signal strength. Any new feedback from people who have flashed the new radios will be appreciated.

I just flashed the NEW NEW radios. Will let you know after a bit. The other new radios were great, however.

Excellent. Thanks man. I would love to try the SGN again but I want to make sure the new radios are an improvement.

I just flashed the NEW NEW ones. Will post after a while. So far so good though. But too early to tell.

I dunno, hard to tell. I can safely say they aren't worse though from speedtests and dbm figures. :)

I patched but not eager to call verizon to switch from i4s to Nexus. Hate talking to the reps.... sigh..

UPDATE: Called Verizon and activated Nexus. Let the testing begin.

3g to 4g handoffs in both directions seem improved to me. That's the big thing with radios... You usually aren't going to get much speed difference but you want the signal to hold better and the handoffs to improve.

So far they seem fine. Hard to tell on such a small sample and in my neighborhood data is pretty lousy anyway.

Handoff does seem quicker tho.

I have battled the signal at home and tried all the radios. My DX was awesome on 3g. My wife's RAZR has great 3g here. I barely have 1X. Thus, I was truly hoping these new radios would help me.

I see no change from home.

Very sad...

My phone still does the complete signal and data loss out of nowhere thing... I got a replacement phone from Amazon today, and it STILL has the same issue. Amazon offered me an exchange for a different device. As much as I love the Gnex, I'm only human and can't deal with these endless radio defects. I know good GNex's exist out there, but how many replacements will it take to finally have one in my hands?

So far I'm noticing no real change between the leaked 4.0.4 radios and the new new ones. If you are coming from 4.0.2 radios then handoff between 3g/4g or 3g/wifi or 4g/wifi is DEFINITELY better, but if you have already got the leaked radios I dont know how much change you are going to see. Of course I do not live in a 4g area so I cant say anything about the LTE radio as I dont know.

Also, even with the leaked 4.0.4 radios I would find my data dropping off completely on 3g occasionally. these new radios havent been flashed long enough to determine whether or not that may still be an issue but I look forward to finding out.

Not surprised.

It's a hardware problem with GN, not software

I live in a 3G only market, so I won't comment about the 3G/4G/WiFi handoff issues. My house is a bit under 2 miles from the tower, but I'm on the back side of a hill that blocks line of site. By point of comparison, ATT users frequently can't make calls inside my house.

I have always been able to make calls, but data was sometimes slow. The 4.0.3 radios improved data speeds, the previous 4.0.4 leak improved them again, slightly but caused voice call problems for me. I haven't had a chance to make a voice call so far, but the data speeds are the best I've seen so far. (as tested from my desktop PC tethered to my GN)

My speeds used to vary quite a bit depending on tower load (there is only one within range of my house) , weather, radio signal conditions. What I'm seeing right now is at the upper range of what I have EVER seen here. At this point I can't say for sure if I just happened to flash when the conditions were perfect or if my signal really improved this much, but last night and this morning's results are leaving me smiling.

I've been reading elsewhere that it seems the signals are the same but they have more bars.

I dont know about that. Maybe with the LTE radio, but on the 3g side of things my bars are the same as they have ever been.

On another note, I did a couple speed tests at work this morning. 3g was abysmal, but the 3g in my building isnt that great to begin with, however I saw a noticeable increase of speed on wifi on both download speeds and upload speeds. Nothing fantastic on the download side (download went from 24mb/s to 25.5mb/s) but my upload shot WAY up (20mb/s to an average of 35mb/s)

But Im just comparing these new results to a speed test I did almost 2 months ago, so its not like the conditions were identical. They were both on the same wifi network though.

Anyone else have any speed test results?

Seems to be improving over time . I'm now getting 4g in places I couldn't before and signal is better ( from -110 to -99 ) also. Coming off stock 4.02 radio

that is based on the 4.0.4 update, not necessarily the Radio (although the radio SHOULD help some as well)
i went from a 4.0.3 ROM to a 4.0.4 ROM and instantly got one more bar...but the same DBM readings.
that is just one of the things they changed in the 4.0.4 system because people were complaining about low signal indicators. basically on 4.0.3 if you were on 4g, it displayed the 4g signal bars...where as other LTE phones displayed bars for 3g while it was connected to 4g.
the 4.0.4 update changed how it used to be to coincide with other LTE phones.

so i just flashed the OTA radios. i previously had the leaked 4.0.4 radios.
I would say there was a slight increase in performance.

on the leaked radios i checked my DBM and it was at -110...shortly after that it went to -116dbm. did a speed test and i was seeing 4 down and 1.5 up. yes this is typical at my work...its a steel and concrete fortress, and i am in a steel cubical in the middle of the building.

after the new radios, phone sitting in the same spot, i am seeing constant (hasn't changed in 30 minutes, checked ever 5-10 minutes) -110 dbm. download speeds also hopped up to about 6 down and 2 up. not a significant difference, but i know they are a TON better than the original 4.0.2 radios.
i am happy with them. also seeing -110 dbm in places i would drop to 3g (restroom) so this is a pretty good update IMO.
