How can I connect my HTC One M8 to my Windows 7 computer?

HTC One M8 wont connect to windows 7 computer

Hello all, I have an HTC One M8 that cannot connect to my dell OptiPlex 760 running windows 7. I have installed HTC Sync Manager and the drivers, they are both up to date. The phone wont connect to my windows xp either which also has the above program and driver installed. I have recently updated to 5.0 and after that I haven't been able to connect. Neither the computer or HTC Sync Manager will recognize the device.

Welcome to Android Central! When you connect via USB, do you get a USB connection notification on the phone? If so, swipe down the notification panel and tap it, then make sure it's set to MTP.

Cables can fail, so also try different cables.

Make sure your cable is for both power and data. Some really cheap cables don't have all the wires to allow data transfer.
