How can I get rid of the Jack icon in status bar (not headphone icon)?

Jack icon in status bar (not headphone icon)

I have a jack plug icon - specifically, not one of the headphone / headset icons - displayed in my status bar, but with nothing plugged into the jack socket. The icon looks like a normal jack plug with a trailing wire. No sound is being routed to the headset ear piece, which means I can only make calls with earphones or the loudspeaker on. I have tried blasting the socket with compressed air and cleaning with an IPA wipe. Any other suggestions would be gratefully received.

Have you tried plugging a headset in and see if that's working? and then plugging it out to see if it goes back to normal?

If not, it sounds like there could be a false contact in the jack leads, and that's hardware, so that needs replacing.

You could try booting into safe mode to rule out software issues, but it sounds more like a hardware one, unfortunately.
