How can i make my samsung galaxy S3 battery life last longer?

But I read in many blogs and it is always suggested to never use any Battery apps or Task killing apps.
Plus I think this constantly sucks your battery in the background.

Task killers bad, some battery apps good.

Just plug your phone in every night and stop worrying about it! If you really, really, really can't charge your phone routinely, invest in a higher capacity battery or some spare batteries. But your looking at 30 hours or more on a charge based on your screen shots. How much do you really need?

Not only that, energizer makes a small rechargeable battery that fits on a key chain that you can use for a quick charge if needed.

Well, I got the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini for a month now. I know it's not the same phone, but for this thread it comes close enough :o)

My battery life went up to about 29h, starting from 21h, by just a few adjustments and a few free apps :o)

I've installed the Llama app, just to automate a few switches for me. The main part is managing my network connectivity and switching sound profiles (of course, that latter one doens't really apply to this thread). Basically it comes down to this:
  • When my screen is turned off, the WiFi and Mobile Data are disabled after 5 mins. This allows me to finish a download and prevents from losing connection when I accidentaly hit the power button.
  • When my screen turns on, network connectivity is restored
  • When WiFi is connected for at least 30 sec, the mobile data is switched off. This prevents coninuously switching when I'm passing the WiFi router a few times and getting back out of range.
  • When my screen stays off for longer periods, network connectivity kicks in for 2 mins every 30 mins to allow a few data syncs (and it keeps switched off at night at home).

Depending of time and location, it also changes my screen brightness (I don't have that auto brightness feature).

I've also reviewed my sync settings. I've disabled all background syncs except Google Calendar and GMail. Auto sync only occurs when I've got WiFi network connectivity.

I've also installed the Battery Doctor app, but more to get a time reading of my remaining battery power and for charge management. I don't really use its power saving options because Llama handles almost all of it a bit more flexible. I use the optimize function only once or twice a week, just when I want to clean up properly. Once or twice a day, I clean out the recent apps log (hold home button), because that closes a few apps who would otherwise reside passively in the memory and use battery power that way.

I only turn on GPS when I need location based services (Llama uses cell polling), like for navigation, Google Local, ... I would have automated it in Llama, but in Jelly Bean that will only work if I root my phone and for now I've got no intention to do so.

And just keep in mind that screen time and network time consume lots of battery power. When you take some moderation, the battery could easily last through the day.

Cheers!

Hi,

Correct me if I am wrong, but I have read that, with heavy usage Samsung GS3 battery would last for around 14-15 hours. I am very upset :( with my GS3 battery backup (GT-I9300 on Vodafone GSM India). The phone is brilliant :D . Bought it few days ago from Samsung e-Store India.
My battery lasts for 4-6 hours heavy usage :'(

I Played Temple Run 2 and Iron Man for around 30 min each = 1 Hours
I had data on for around 4-5 Hours (I have 3G but currently speed has been reduce to 2G as I have used up all the 3GB of 3G data allowed). During this I downloaded 2 apps from play Store around 4 to 5 Mb. And Also my Work Email and Gmail is synced (Not sure if this may reduce battery life)
Yes I have a Live wallpaper On, and Sadly my Colleague love to stare at it... But since she it prettier than my wallpaper I let her stare at it :-[ . Around 10 min.
Also I Dialled 4-5 calls for around 2-3 min each.
That rounds up to around 1hr + 5 hr + 10 min + 20 min = 6:30 min (after which my battery was 8%)

I am chgarging my device for the Third time now... :'(

Please help me figure out, if may be I am just abusing my GS3, or should I take it to the Service Center.

Please see the screenshots:

Priyanka,
Dude you may not be knowing but Iron Man is such a battery drainer that even my ipad which has 11,600mah battery drops its battery level very quickly. Then live wallpaper consumes so much battery. I put so many live wallpapers before and each time I saw live wallpaper was the second thing what's was draining battery after 'screen'.
Then I would advise if you don't need mails you must disable Gmail service, setting---accounts---gmail---disable sync.
Plus, if you haven't enabled Power Saving Mode on then do it, helps to save a lot of battery.
And I do hope you aren't using wifi as the main network.
Dont use any task killer or battery saver because mostly they are running in the background.

Delay the sync, turn off GPS, WiFi until needed, turn off Bluetooth until needed. lower screen brightness, no live wallpaper. Get a phone charger for the car, carry around an energizer emergency phone charger for mobile phones, buy a bigger battery. There are lots of things to do to get a good amount from your battery.

RAM being utilized in Android is a good thing and is not in and of itself indicative of anything being wrong.

Live wallpaper isn't that bad unless you spend hours looking at it.

If you're still having issues after that, charge the battery to 100%, let it discharge to about 50%, then do some screen captures:
+ Go to Settings / Battery, and capture that screen.
+ Tap the line that says "Screen", and capture what that displays
+ Go back to the Battery display, and tap on the graph. Capture that screen, too.

Then post all three of them here.

I followed advice in quoted post. I interpreted the instructions that I should not use my phone while it goes to 50%, despite this I had to use it a little today which was making one call, looking up some buss departures, checking my gcal once. In addition I unlocking screen maybe 6-8 times (unlocked for a couple of seconds, touched screen at 2 of the occasions). If I should have used my phone as I normally do I'll redo the procedure - this is my big pet peeve. Just from taking these screenshots and uploading (mobile data) to dropbox battery dropped from 50% to 48%. That was about 5 min ago, I just unlocked and now it's at 46%! Phone was bought in june 2012 and I remember thinking battery time was bad from the get go, this in addition to it only being 1 year old makes me belive it's not natural degradation of battery that is responsible for the current situation. It might be faulty, some app/screwed up ROM, or it's just normal performance for the S3. If so I'm saddened, but need to hear it so I can stop wasting time investigating and trying to remedy.

Stock ROM 4.1.2
Removed a lot of system apps (I know, should have frozen them). All where safe to remove according to sources.
Frozen almost all apps I don't use frequently, and some other system apps I deemed unnecessary.
Mastersync enabled always as well as mobile data. I'm not interested in having them periodically disabled.
For the last month power saving mode disabled, but before that enabled and I don't feel there's a difference battery wise.
Wifi on during sleep - Always, for the last month. Conflicting advice, some say disabled some say enabled. Although I never use WIFI.
Wifi timer disabled
Bluetooth disabled
GPS and all three location services disabled except when that rare occasion.
Screen time out 30 seconds, smart stay disabled (not that I think it drains battery); I'm always fast to lock manually.
Haptic feedback disabled
Auto brightness off - this is probably a key factor draining battery for me, I usually forget to turn it down from 100% (needed outside). But still i feel something else is amiss.

Unfortunately, your screen captures didn't come through. If you're not connecting to WiFi, you should turn it off. WiFi is more efficient for data transfer than 3G or 4G, but if you're not using WiFi you're just powering 2 radios by leaving it on.

Screen brightness can make a huge difference. That big, bright screen is probably the single biggest power user in the phone.

And I apologize for not being clear. You can use the phone normally while waiting for it to drain. In fact, that's probably better, as it may show which of your normal apps are causing a problem.

I've found Juice Defender to be somewhat helpful, not a day & night difference but helpful nonetheless. My 4G has been disabled since I got my phone due to network issues AT&T was experiencing in mid January and I've never re-enabled it. I found even when tethered to my PC I was satisfied with the page load times. I like how much faster 4G is over 3G, that is a night & day difference but I'm willing to compromise the speed for better battery life.

I was unclear as well, naturally I have WIFI disabled. Fixed the screenshots, will do the procedure again tomorrow when I use phone as I normally do. Will have brightness fixed at 50%.

Wait? 22 hours on 50% battery? If that's anywhere close to typical I'm not sure what your concern is. That's about as good as you could possibly hope for.

I downloaded juice defender but the problem with free version was all the radios were switched off while some urgent message was waiting for me.
Either you disable it or keep ur radios off when idle. So i had to disable it.
If you know how to fix it plz explain alo g with a screenshot.
