How can I start my phone using the touch screen?

Start phone using touch screen

I want to be able to waken it whilst contained in a bike handle bar mount which encloses it completely so that only the screen can be accessed easily by the transparent front cover which allows for touch screen use.

Motorola Moto G (gen 1) running android 4.4.4 kitkat

You may be able to use a tap-to-wake app which uses the proximity sensor....there are several in the Play Store.
