How can you access concealed apps running but not listed?

My Motorola Droid 4 has been acting extremely odd as of the last two weeks; warm battery, shortened battery life, clicking while I am having conversations, etc. I have a sneaking suspicion that I may clicked on the wrong link while browsing and may have unwittingly downloaded something on my phone; in fact I think I know where I did it, but I want to prove what it is and where it came from. I am trying to avoid restoring everything back to factory default before identifying what it is. I need to know what I can do to detect which apps/viruses could possibly be running but being concealed. Can someone please help?
