How do I add photo to contact Galaxy 4s mini AT&T without using ATT contacts?

My boyfriend can't add photos to contacts. When tapping the contact, photo option does not come up

The default Google Contacts app, the KitKat Contacts app and Go Contacts Ex allow you to edit the photo. Choose the contact. Edit it. Tap the photo.
