How do I get rid of a new, additional (suddenly appeared) search bar on Chrome

I have been using Chrome on a Galaxy S5 phone for many months. Suddenly a new search bar with rounded corners has appeared. The new bar stays on the bottom of the screen and remains on all URLs as long as I'm using Chrome. The new search bar makes Chrome unusable because it obscures information on the bottom of the screen. Where did it come from and how do I get rid of it?

Is there something in Chrome settings that can revert this? I didn't see anything like this in mi Pixel.
