How do I make my Samsung S3 mini connect to data only through wifi?

Samsung s3 mini - prevent constant data usage

I formerly only used this phone on a prepaid plan, no data. I've just upgraded to a data plan but don't want it to connect so frequently when I'm away from wifi, ie, getting news notifications, etc. However, I do want to receive email (I use MailDroid) - everything else can wait until I'm on wifi. How can I make it do that - do I need a 3rd party app or is there a setting I've missed? thanks

Turn mobile data off when you don't want to use data. You can use Data Enabler Widget if you don't have a Mobile Data toggle in your notification pulldown. Press it's on (and bright), press it's off (and dim).
