How do you Sync Outlook?

Just placed my order for the Incredible last night, and am excited. This looks like the phone I have been waiting for for a long time (I currently still use a Treo Palm 700p).

LOTS of stuff to learn, but first big question. How do I sync to Contacts, Calender, and Tasks in Outlook directly on my PC?

The easiest thing to do is start using a Gmail account and sync everything over ther air, rather than connecting your phone to your computer and doing a sync all the time. Having said that, in the past HTC has made available a program called HTC sync that's designed to let you do what your asking. I haven't used it personally, but from what I've read, people have had mixed results with it.

i have heard this is a pain too. Hopefully this software will allow it to be much easier

i think i am going to use Google calendar sync for my outlook calendar and HTC sync for my contacts. that way my calendar will always be up to date on my phone, PC and online. I don't need to sync my contacts as often...so manually once or twice a week should be sufficient.

I use outlook and a blackberry now and i have pre ordered the Incredible, i have 2 emails that go into outlook plus 1000 contacts and I use the calendar for everything. I am thinking I will get a gmail email and just forward my other 2 emails to that and use companionlink to sync my contacts and calendar. Companionlink has a couple of different options also and you can try them for free. Ive been trying to figure out the google apps but it is to confusing.

Other than not being able to sync notes and having to manually sync contacts...are there any reasons why companionLink would be any better?

Thanks for all the info.

I will look at HTC Sync first, since we do not always have good connections to the internet. Also, I like the setup I have now, and would like to keep that system going if possible.

HotSync...i missed that button on my Treo 700p. On the BlackBerry...you have to open desktop manager and click the synchronize button. there is no way to initiate a sync from the phone or cradle. :(

From what Ive seen on the forums there seems to be a lot of issues with Google Calendar sync messing up your calendar. I would search the forum for more reviews on it.

I am thinking of moving from my storm to the incredible. Will android sync with my exchange server?

Touchdown is an app that makes Android sync with outlook via a company exchange server. I think you get it on nitrodesk.com

CompanionLink syncs tasks and notes to Android, in addition to contacts and calendar. If you use categories in Outlook, those carry over in the sync, so you're able to sort your task and notes lists by category. The calendar and contacts also supports categories as well.

There's a 14-day free trial at www.companionlink.com/androidusb

I hope this helps everybody out there looking for a complete solution to sync Android and Outlook!

Kaena,

Thanks. That appears to be exactly what I was looking for. Will give it a try as soon as I get my phone (Saturday)

Thanks for that link Cory, I'm putting it in my favorites bar to read the minute I get the phone. I have my Windows Mobile stuff uploaded to Microsoft's My Phone site, which works well for backup, but only for MS OS phones. Sadly you can't download back into Outlook from there, but can sync the phone to Outlook, then export to .csv for importing into Gmail.
