How does the encrypted bootloader affect you?

I just picked up an Incredible to replace my girls crappy moto citrus, I have been playing around with it. The bootloader is now unlocked, and messing around with CM7. Next week will be MIUI then a honeycomb just to see what thats like although nothing will work.
I am really enjoying flashing new roms and seeing what a full gingerbread rom is like. There is so much to do when things are unlocked. For my next phone, I must be able to unlock the bootloader.

I do love my DX and Liberty 1.5 is great but the grass is so much greener on the side that you can fully customize YOUR phone.

I commend the DX devs for what they have to go through to make a custom rom.

edit: just flashed the newest MIUI rom. WOW, what a different phone and android experience. Having a phone with an unlocked bootloader is awesome.

FYI, There is a MIUI ROM available for the Milestone. Its bootloader is just as locked as a DX.

I've played around with CM7 on a friend's phone. It's nice, but not nice enough to get me to select an inferior phone (in my opinion) like the Incredible or EVO just to be able to install it.

The days of being able to flash ROMS are nearing and end, folks. Stick with your current devices, whether it be the X or Dinc, or Evo...whatever ROM you are running. Google is locking down it's OS..and so far, devs are having a devil of a time getting current devices not sold with Gingerbread or getting it OTA, to load it.
Main reason we don't have a Gingerbread leak for our X. They have the leak, just can't get it to unlock and flash.
I would not get ANY new device coming out, unless you want to say goodbye to customizations and be satisfied with all OTA updates.

Is there a link or can you point me in the right direction to read up on "Google locking down it's OS?

The bootloader lock made me go out and buy a Droid so that I could load Cyanogen. Some days I really prefer the Droid with Cyanogen over the Droid X with Liberty.

So your sticking with what you have, even when duel and then quad processors come out, because you can't flash a ROM? Sounds nuts to me. I like running Apex on my X, but as long as I can install a new UI, like Launcher Pro or ADW, I'll suffer through those faster phones.

in a way regret but dont regret. The phone itself is amazing in alot of ways I feel motorolas locking holds the phone back from being truely great. Yah htc phones are battery hogs at times but just because the x is beyter doesn't mean we shouldn't be able to improve on that
