How is a D-Brand skin supposed to keep your phone from cracking?

I was watching this review video that just popped up in YouTube's autoplay and the review was, obviously, sponsored by D-Brand (I think they even sponsor the State of the Union at this point). The reviewer starts by saying we should get a D-Brand skin so that our phone doesn't crack... mmm... it's a sticker... if you drop the phone, it should shatter and the best thing the D-Brand skin will do is keep the pieces together right? Unless there's some physics I'm not understanding here.

Any insight?

Like you said it would only keep the pieces together, unless the drop was just enough to almost crack your phone and that thin layer of sticker was just enough to stop the phone from cracking which is super circumstantial

I had a phone with a dbrand sticker on it and my daughter dropped my phone on concrete, I didn't know my phone cracked till a few weeks later when I decided to remove the skin (I never dropped the phone before or after that incident)

That's what I thought. This wasn't the first time I heard such a thing which is why I was wondering if maybe it would somehow force the glass to stay together or something. It's a shame reviewers are using this kind of language which can lead to some confusion.

Any protection is better than no protection but with skins it's minimal at best. Same with screen protectors.

I thought I was clear when I said minimal at best. I would not rely on it to protect glass from cracking.

You were indeed clear. I'm tring to understand how it can even be a minimal protection. What's the physics behind it.

Now your reply seems a little annoyed. If I'm not reading it right, I apologize. But if I am, add to that the fact that there was also someone who came here and straight up called me an ***** (who was subsequently banned which is why his response are no longer here) and I have to say I really don't understand why this thread gets on so many peoples nerves. It's just a simple bloody question that can easily be ignored.

I don't know where you get that I'm annoyed. It is a layer of protection and anything is better than nothing. Would I rely on it protecting glass underneath it?....of course not. Can it prevent breakage from minor mishaps?....of course.

I stated that I thought I was clear because I thought I was. A skin offers minimal protection against breakage from drops. It would have to be a borderline situation where the layer softens or acts as a buffer to the blow. I don't know how else I can emphasize what I've already said. If you don't agree that's OK.

the skin will help to disperse so.e of the impact over a larger surface than unprotected glass. How much protection depends on the impact. As someone said it provides minimal impact protection and is mainly there to protect from scratches. Will the phone survive a 10 foot drop? Probably not. The same physics that works with laminated glass applies. Each layer adds protection from shatters.

I kept wondering about this and had the same conclusion. "This phone is slick, better put a dbrand skin on it to protect it". How? And how is that helping the look of your phone? You cant see the orchid grey or whatever with a sticker over it. Personally, I think the fact phones don't have a premium plastic that mimics the glass look and feel by now is pretty stupid. Mine goes in a case. I'll put my Otterbox Symmetry up against d brand any day of the week.
