How long (aprx) will a battery hold its charge?

I'm in the process of purchasing a 2nd battery for my phone to keep incase of an emergency.

I was wondering though how long (aprx) does an official S4 mini battery retain its charge when it's not kept within the phone?

I do not know how long as i have not tried it. But i think much longer than a day. Probably a week or a few weeks. Losing charge gradually.
