how many of you don't have the "none" option in your "screen lock" option?

I only have the 2012 version, so I can't speak from direct experience. You didn't encrypt your tablet, did you?

then this seems to be totally strange!

mine is not encrypted, and it doesn't have this "none" option at all?

am i the only one in the entire world who doesn't have this "none" option? I have two accounts on this tablet. neither of them have the none option.

I think you may have just indicated why. It might be due to having multiple users. The way to change users is on the lock screen.

it happens with corporate phones as well. if they have corporate policy enabled.

I am the owner of both accounts. I don't see why that's the reason. This is too strange. I got this on Amazon, maybe that guy sold me his corporate Tablet?

Re: how many of you don't have the "none" option in your "screen lock" option?

But the tablet doesn't know that you own both accounts. It makes sense to me that it would prompt for an unlock code with each wakeup, because if it's configured for multi-user, how is the tablet supposed to know who's trying to wake it up?

Isn't "slide" functionally equivalent to "none" for security?

Nope. "None" means the tablet wakes up directly to the homescreen, while "Slide" means you get the lockscreen with a simple slide to unlock.

Re: how many of you don't have the "none" option in your "screen lock" option?

My options include None as the first one. Frankly, though, like Unicorn Rancher, I think of None and Slide as pretty much the same in terms of security. I didn't even realize that there was a None option until I read this thread.

There is an option to have no lock screen at all, so when you open a smart cover or press the power button you're straight to your home screen, without any need to do any sliding, etc.

Thanks to this thread, I just changed mine from slide to none. Didn't even know that was an option! One less thing to do to get going. I don't put any important data on my tablet, so I'm not afraid of anyone stealing my info. I'll just have to quickly change my gmail password if it ever gets stolen.

The difference is that with Slide, you get the lockscreen when the tablet comes on. So if the tablet turns on inadvertently, you won't accidentally start an app (or if it's a phone, dial someone with your derriere). If unlock is set to None, the homescreen automatically shows up, and anything can be touched and activated right away.

Re: how many of you don't have the "none" option in your "screen lock" option?

so everyone here only has one account on the tablet?

can you create another account to see if your "none" option will disappear?

it is like two people using one computer. they don't have to enter their password every time the screensaver starts.

I used to have two accounts on my 2012 N7 but when I got the 2013 it went to 1 account on each. The method of switching which user was logged in was on the lock screen, which is why I'm assuming "none" goes away in that circumstance.

I set up a second user and as expected, the 'none' option is no longer available. I'm not sure why you find this so bewildering as the user account is selected from the lock screen.

And it's exactly like having multiple users on a computer. I turn my computer on and first thing I see is a 'lock' screen where one has to select the user account, regardless if a password is required.

Re: how many of you don't have the "none" option in your "screen lock" option?

thank you for the help.

when i have two accounts on a computer, i don't have to keep clicking on one account after the screensaver starts. i just move the mouse or press a button on the keyboard, i will get back to the desktop.

i wish that there is a none function for the tablet.
