How much waiting is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus worth to everyone?

I'll wait til I feel like spending the money, then go and test the phones that get my attention. I'm a Samsung guy so I'll probably end up with the GN. But not until after I give the Rezound and whatever else comparable is out at the time, minus the Razr, something about that phone turns me off.

Im guessing its the locked bootloader :)

Re: How much waiting is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus worth to everyon

I'm waiting. The only reason I don't already have the GSM version is because it doesn't have LTE. HSPA+ is nice, but at least for me, I can't go back to it after pulling 8-12 Mbps down consistently on my Thunderbolt. That and I've learned my lesson: if you want the latest versions of Android, get the Nexus. I'm done with waiting for OEM's and carriers to update phones because of Sense, Touchwiz, etc. I could root, sure, but it isn't for me.

Re: How much waiting is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus worth to everyon

There is not any other option for me. I will stop waiting when either this phone comes out or when the next Nexus phone is announced for Verizon. I am done with OEM skinned phones with useless bloatware. I am done waiting for updates. Before anyone comments that the Verizon GN has bloatware, and Verizon delays updates all the time... The GN will get updates before any other VZW phone. Two VZW apps is a far cry less than what every other phone on VZW has. This is absolutely the very best option on VZW, now and for the foreseeable future.

Re: How much waiting is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus worth to everyon

Not waiting on CES, because that's too far away, and I have an upgrade that I want to use right now (pointless to give VZW the same monthly fee without being subsidized on my phone). Unless there is a much better phone (with ICS, of course) coming out or getting an official date before GN, I will wait for GN

Re: How much waiting is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus worth to everyon

Heck, if you don't mind bloatware and skins, as well as having to go to great trouble to get a timely update, you've had comparable or even possibly better hardware available on Verizon for several weeks now. Nothing that comes out in the next 12 months will be any different that way if you want the "pure" Android experience.

And heck, it's just as likely the next Nexus phone won't come out on Verizon, anyway. In fact, that raises an interesting issue for GNex users a year or two down the road. What do you do if want to update but don't have a VZW Nexus option when your update period starts?

Move to another LTE carrier that has an LTE Nexus. By the time I upgrade (two years after the Nexus comes out) VZW data will be tiered for everyone, AT&T will have widespread LTE, maybe even LTE-Advanced, and Android 6.0 Key-Lime Pie will be the hot topic.

Re: How much waiting is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus worth to everyon

I really wanted the Galaxy Nexus because I was fiending to use ICS.. now that I have ICS.. I might wait it out till the next wave of smartphones comes in.

It just feels wierd having an upgrade and not using it, and I wanted to keep me and my girls upgrades close together and she upgraded last month.. so I dont plan on waiting forever..

But at the same time Im loving this fascinate right now and seems dumb to change.

The longer somebody has to wait for a phone loaded with ICS with a 1.2 ghz dual-core processor, the less attractive that device is. A year ago, it would have been amazing. A year from now, it will be pathetic. Right now, it's right on par with what you'd expect (having the advantage of ICS, though). There will, however, be a turning point where this phone will no longer be impressive enough to drop $700 on it.

A year from now we will be waiting for the next Nexus device.

i still will buy this phone. NFC will be enabled eventually and "bloat" can be disabled. It will be fully rootable as all Nexus phones have been. I for one love the idea of no hardware buttons, i can't wait for that actually.

STOKED!

Im getting the Nexus ,unless something delays it for several months longer.
I expect it will be released this month tho.

I am only going to wait until I have it in my possession.

Re: How much waiting is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus worth to everyon

I've been anxious for the GN but its been no big deal waiting for it. I've been reading the forums but have stopped posting because for the last few weeks these forums have descended into childishness and adult tantrums.

My wife asked me to check her Dinc a few days ago and it is beginning to have some problems so I'm more anxious now to get something so that I can give her my Sammi Charge to use but its not so drastic that we have to do something right now. I'll wait until the end of the month by which time I'm all but sure that we'll see the Gn released, but if not, then I'll go ahead and get something else and give her my phone.

Personally, I would like to get the GN to have an (almost) pure android phone but if that doesn't happen its not the end of the world for me. I can always get a Rezound and root it to get rid of the bloat and overlay.

Re: How much waiting is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus worth to everyon

Waited this long, why not a little bit longer.

This phone is going to be worth the wait.

Re: How much waiting is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus worth to everyon

hardly a big deal. i'm on a 3GS iphone at AT&T for like 3 years now, and i'm a google, not a mac user. so this upgrade is gonna be HUGE for me. i'm excited but absence makes the heart fonder, so...

Re: How much waiting is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus worth to everyon

This is like Halley's Comet on Verizon, it's a once in a lifetime event. The chances of us seeing another Nexus on Verizon are slim. So I will wait.

;)

Re: How much waiting is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus worth to everyon

I don't have any problems with waiting and once it's announced I'll decide if I'm going to buy one (who am I kidding I will be getting it for sure). Only reason I would get one is if it's pushed back to the end of the first quarter and other ICS phones are around the corner with better spec. I have a feeling we will all have the Nexus before the year ends.

Re: How much waiting is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus worth to everyon

I'm nursing a motorola droid atm.

And I do mean nursing.

Yesterday I got a phone call from home, couldn't answer it. The thing just froze up, and when I tapped on answer call, it just froze up again, wouldn't let me hear the other person, and it went straight to missed call.

I tried to hover over the notifications bar to see the missed call and try to call home, and it froze, it took forever for the bar to drop down, and then wouldn't let me tap on the missed call to go to the phone. I couldn't press power or any of the other buttons for that matter and had to remove and re-insert the battery to get it to work again.

This has happened before, several times. Things will crash for no reason. Wifi doesn't work at home and barely works outside. OTA updates don't install, contacts will get messed up for no reason, there's a humongous lag with everything I do, and sometimes the GPS will die during the most important times.

One night it even said "Searching for network" when I was at home, and setting my alarm before going to sleep. It's never done that before, so I restarted. Same issue. I decided to wait until morning, and it somehow fixed itself. However a bigger problem arose. The alarm never went off. It stopped working for whatever reason for over 2 weeks. And that's the only alarm I have to wake me up in the morning. It still doesn't work.

So yes, a new phone is definitely needed and I've waited and nursed this thing long enough. My upgrade date is december 10th and I hope the nexus is out around that time. Otherwise I will have to go with something else and possibly blow a gasket.

If the phone is purported to come out a few days or even a week after the 10th I won't mind. But if it's pushed beyond the end of January, I will blow a gasket.

Re: How much waiting is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus worth to everyon

I'm not waiting any longer. I've decided it's not that exciting of a phone when I compare it to other new phones that just released within the last 4-6 weeks.

I'm leaving for AT&T and getting the white Skyrocket next week. The specs are more than good enough to hold me for a 2 year contract with AT&T and I'll be set for LTE when it arrives in my area. HSPA+ will be just fine until then.
