Hi.....I have my phone set for audible notifications. But I have NO idea where the heck this annoying one can be coming from.

In Gmail, Calendar and Messaging and Default Notifications in Settings, I have selected other notifications, which seem to work at appropriate times.

But STILL when I get some emails or calendar appointment notifications, I get this annoying horn that sounds like a boat horn.

I have no idea where it's coming from or how to turn it off. (As I was writing this, got notice of 2 emails...boat horn....) Any thoughts? TIA

No one with any advice on this?

It is incomprehensible. I have turned or changed notifications for Messaging, Skype, Calendar, Gmail, default notifications...I don't know where it can be coming from.

It seems typically to come with emails, but my Gmail app is correctly set to a different notification type.

For the record, I think I solved this. The really loud boat horn noise was apparently a vibration notification, which I had turned on with the other, sound notification for gmail.

Now, the default vibrations that you can configure on Jelly Bean sound nothing like that. Plus, I have a conservative and typical one turned on.

Plus, although I set vibration for gmail to "on," there was nothing indicating it would do anything unusual or giving me a choice.

Yet, this is what I've gotten.

Since turning vibrations to "off" in Gmail, the problem has gone away.

This is one heckuva vibration. It is very bizarre.

If you happened to download NHL 2013 Live Wallpaper, the sound is attached to it. Find settings for the wallpapers to disable the "goal" foghorn sound. good luck

Hi, I'm just getting this noise too! My phone is set to silent, which is the most baffling part. I'm noticing it only happening when I have Snapchat open. It's quite irritating while in class!
In Gmail, my notification sound is set to default. I'm also not receiving a new notification for anything when the noise sounds.

I just got it again when I installed the Google Messenger app and had not retooled the settings.

However, this time I know where to look. In Settings, I went to NOTIFICATIONS and turned OFF "Vibrations."

That did it. You can leave a Sound notification, but turn off Vibrations as a notification. Some apps may let you choose WHICH type of Vibration, but most won't.
