[How To] [Discussion] Improve Battery Life

I've had my phone off the charger since 1:30pm today. It is now 11:38pm and I still have 88% left. I'm pretty positive changing my email settings made a significant difference. I don't use any task killers/battery savers either.

I wouldn't know what to do with myself if I had that much battery life after 10 hours. How much are you using it over that 10h?

What does data roaming do?

Searches for 3g with other towers outside of your network. Even when you have a strong Vzw signal. So it is always searching, sucking down battery life. You do not need it, if you are in a strong area. Might need it where Vzw does not have a lot of service. Which is pretty rare.

looking forward to trying some of these fixes soon...

just rooted and threw on SC2.9 on saturday and today my battery went from 100% to 15% in under 6 hours with light use. that ain't gonna fly.

eta: this seems to be about 2-3x the power usage it was before

Well, may not be my most watched thread anymore. Kinda dead here like my battery, jk. Watching the JuicePlotter says no diff after turning data roaming off, disapoint. Turned off by instinct (ROAMING?!?!?!?! OMFG NOOOOO!!!!! :) when 1st got phone. Prob. also when flashed to DL30. Forgot at 1st when SC 2.9'd, but doesn't look like magic bullet, bummer. When not in use JP is almost flat, when in use (any use) it's 45 degrees down. Still would appreciate recommendation of best app to zero in more...

edit: o yea, think i'll go to 2% again tonight, SetCPU down 20% for tomorrow after all night phone off charge & bstat 1st thing... and would have thought taking multiple pics w/ flash on would kill the battery pretty good but seems less than playing Klondike...

system info widget is a good one. your need to keep a realistic attitude. its just not gonna last days. that would be aswome, but so would brocolli if it tasted like chocalate.

thanks, may be some life left in this one

but just empirically it held charge much better b4, i'm just trying to troubleshoot & see if it's a setting or something, or if need to start over again. not 2 stressed.

thanks again to you and all the gang that make this a great place to find out how to get the most from our stuff.

Thank you so much for this post Gunner. Since the 2.9.1 sc update, my battery has gone thunderbolt on my a**. It wasn't pretty, pulling my phone out of my pocket after an hour lecture to see it lost 10-15%. Again, I thank you!

Tried this and no affect on my battery. :'(

My phone would not make it a whole day if I didn't charge it at some point. And this is with minimal use. After 10h of minimal use from a full charge I'm at 41%.

I would say moderate use. Texting a bunch, fiddling with settings and what not. I'm just amazed at how good my battery has been, it's awesome. :D

I also noticed when I sometimes charge my phone while it's off it lasts longer.

lookin at an app called battery doctor. just cuz it has "Full Cycle Charge". wonder if the rest of it would conflict with JuiceDefender? Like the good old days when Symantec (Norton), AOL etc. would compete to see who could wreck your pc 1st and leave more detritus behind?

lol. good old days. you mean yesterday. norton is an aweful thing to do to your computer. i have 2 or 3 service calls a week where norton has blocked someone from getting on like. same with mcaffee. thats not even mentioning all the other stupid crap those programs do to your computer.

battery doctor. i will have to give that a looksie.

im glad i could help out.

I can't even get my phone to stay at 100% long enough to boot, open terminal emulator and run bstats. Am I worse off than most people?

So it's been a day since I did the batt stat thing, and after about 4 hours of using my phone for 20 minutes im at 74%. Is that bad? It seems bad haha. Should I take the next step and power it on and off etc?

give it another day. then do the long anoying process.

lol. i think so. 99% should be ok.

Hah I figured... but I am a perfectionist and it was driving me crazy to see it drop down to 99% just as I open terminal emulator. I think I will try your long shut down/restart process tomorrow or over the weekend.

oops, forgot to quote jeremy:

same here. boot from power off, run bstats, reboot: bam, 95%

I get great life. Phone calls all day. Push emails from work. A lot of blogs and news. I am at 11 hours off and have 21% left. That is using auto dimming and 30 second time out. I am not running a ROM since I am the 2% with a SOD issue.

I think were I am is great. It is about the same that I got on my Omnia with less processor and crappy screen.

Started using Beautiful Widgets again. Noticed it drained my battery slightly more than usual. When I was using Minimalistic Text for my clock/weather it didn't drain as fast.
