[How To] [Discussion] Improve Battery Life

what's a long time? I've charged my phone overnight with the phone off, has never seemed to be a problem. I've never noticed that it's been warm or hot when I've picked it up afterwards.

Also, I've got some other questions for you guys about charging... have you guys noticed that if you have your phone plugged in and you reboot, the battery level jumps... by a lot? right now I ran my battery down and then I rebooted to recovery to flash a few things and when I booted back up, the battery was up to 46%, from 5% before I rebooted. so this can't be right... would this mess up the battery reading where I would need to reset bstats?

also, how often are you guys having to clear bstats? thanks

Ya i kinda notice a big jump from time to time but from 5-46% thats strange; whats the time frame on that? I clear my stats when im not able to flash ROMs at 100% charge or when i suspect the battery isnt reporting correctly. You should wipe the stats if you havent done it yet otherwise try charging it up again to see if you get that same problem.

I got something similar the other day when I was too impatient to charge to 100 before flashing the new kernal:)! Went from ~50% to 74% in one boot after flashing. Ran bstats the next morn after full charge. Doing well now.

You need to rerun battery stats whenever you flash a new kernel. Which means anytime you flash a new kernel or ROM you will need to rerun batt stats. With all the new stuff that will be coming out over the next few weeks, I'm not going to bother running batt stats until all the dust has settled.

maybe took about 5 minutes for me to flash everything, wipe caches and reboot. I actually cleared my bstats before this last rundown, but I notice this everytime I reboot with the phone plugged in. I rebooted one more time and jumped from 55% to 71%... so not quite as bad, but still, quite a jump.

@Landshark yup, I did flash a kernel, so I guess once I charge back up I'll run bstats to clear it up again. all this flashing is screwing up my bstats!

I've definitely thought about it! I'll probably seriously consider it if I go on a trip or something and I need this thing to work for long periods of time without a charger.

I hope it's a factory battery, otherwise your kernel choices will be limited.

I don't think it's a stock battery. Also do a search for the Siedio 3000 mAh battery and see how much thicker it makes the phone. Comes with a different phone back to accommodate the larger battery. The largest stock battery I've seen is the Samsung 2200 mAh battery which also comes with a different back for the phone. Haven't seen any side pictures to see how much it adds to the thickness of the phone.

I had to laugh.. My solution was wall chargers for the office and car chargers for the car. Battery Life not a problem...

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming...

LOL... so much for our mobile phones being mobile...

Samsung makes a factory 2400 mAh battery as well, but it turns your phone into a small brick, not nearly as sexy

Ok so I just read this whole thread and nothing about the battery stats from clockwork is mentioned. could someone explain that? Can I reset that instead of doing the terminal emulator thing?? If please explain steps doing using the one in clockwork thanks! Because im on the new kernel and my battery is still terrible. Thanks

As far as I'm aware it's still broken in cwm, you have to do it through the ATE

GizmoDroid from XDA and I worked together for a couple of days (and by worked together I mean he did all the work of finding the solution and I was the guinea pig who tested the various methods until he got it working), and it is almost completely working in cwm now. Go to my trouble with nandroid backups thread HERE, and read GizmoDroid's explanation of how to make it work. The almost fully functional version of cwm should be released by jt1134 within a couple of days. The only thing that is not working still is wiping battery stats.

In order to wipe battery stats, make sure you follow the steps outlined in Gunnermike53's battery thread HERE and only wipe battery stats when you have charged the battery to a complete and full 100% using this method.

lol ill just wait! to much work. by than a new kernel will be out im sure than ill do it. Thanks

just grab the bstats script file, charge your battery to full, and then flash the bstats.zip in cwm... it's as easy as flashing a rom! ok, maybe much easier.

really, the easiest way is to download terminal emulator from the market and run the bstats through there.

start up terminal emulator, type in "su" (without the quotes...) and hit enter. if it asks for super user permissions, accept it. then type in "bstats" and hit enter. the phone will reboot and the battery stats will be reset. make sure you charge your battery to full first with the phone powered off.

do we know if clearing battery stats in new CWM works now? so we dont need to do the Terminal Emulator??

Everything I have seen is that that the batt stat clear is working.. You do not need the TE. The stats are being cleared there is just no visual display of the event.

so ideally you would want to wipe bstats at the same time when installing a new kernel or flash a ROM with desired kernel with the battery at 100%?

Yes, make sure battery is at complete 100%, flash kernel or ROM with kernel included, wipe batt stats.
