[HOW-TO] Download/Install Honeycomb to Nook Color (SD card)

When I use WinImage, Disk, Restore Virtual image to physical drive, there is no option to change to "all files", there isnt any files listed at all. The only box to check states "Include non removable hard disk(s). Also, which version of WinImage are you using? I downloaded version 8.5.

3A. PC Users:

- The usual program for this, Win32DiskImager, isn't working with this large file. So download WinImage, and under 'Disk' choose "Restore Virtual Image to Physical Drive." Change the files shown at the bottom to "all files" and select the file.

When using WinImage , after you select the restore to physical drive function it opens up the browse window to select the file, at the bottom right of that new window switch it from "virtual hard diks *.ihd" , to "all files"

We need more info...where are you stuck? What errors do you get? Windows? Mac? ADB working? Are you stuck at the image creation? Installing Google Apps?

I am running windows 7 x64. i can't get the adb to identify the nook. I have the adb interface driver installed and showing up in my device manager. how can i detect the device? i have followed step-by-step the instructions at nookdevs.com/NookColor_USB_ADB, but i can't get the nook to show up under a recognized device. can anyone help. thanks.

i have the device found, but now when copying the files it saya it is a read only file system?

Sounds like it didn't mount the file system as R/W. Double check the adb mount command in the instructions and re-run it.
when i run the
adb shell mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 /system
i get Usage: mount [-r] [-w] [-o options] [-t type] device directory

I also experience the red rectangle. However I can not get anything to download from the market. I'm curious what apps you were able to install.

My market wouldn't work, nor would GTalk log in, after 2 reboots of the Nook, they connected without a hitch, and I was then able to download apps, etc. Go figure :p

I just put the new version and even from before when i wanted to use the adb bridge it say error: device not found and i have all of the drivers installed...any ideas

I am at a loss. I have rebooted several times to no avail. Do you think it would hurt to try to push market on again. I have wifi connected but apps fail right at the beginning of the download. I also get the google talk error as well. Is everyone using the market and services version links provided here?

Okay, I might be on the right path now. It seems I needed to already have my uSD card inserted into the computer. But now I have a new question.

When I select Restore virtual hard drive image on physical drive, it gives me an option to select a physical drive in the list: 1 Generic USB SD reader 1.00.

If I select it, then select all files, find the nookhoney02 file that I downloaded and press open, a warning pops up that states "you will restore image on physical drive 1generic usb sd reader 1.00. This message is the last warning. Are you sure you want to erase disk content? Yes or NO.

Does this sound right? Should I say yes? I definitely dont want to screw anything up. What about all the files already on the SD card? Will they be lost?

Yes, that's what I had, and all went well. It will overwrite your card, so you may want to copy anything you want over to your computer.

WinImage keeps saying "Error reading file ....."
I am not very familiar with WinImage and it doesn't feel very intuitive (to me anyway).

What am I doing wrong?

ideas?

Thank you!
I ran into this error and realized in my excitement I forgot to unzip/unrar the file before I tried to put it to an sd card. You should also run as administrator. Hope this helps.

Try verifying Debug mode is turned on

Apps > Settings > Applications > Development > Debug Mode (from memory)
Enable Debug.
Reboot the device.

Success. I went back pushed market and services line by line and rebooted and it works like a charm. Loaded gmail and pandora right away.

Got it working. Not sure I'd consider it for everyday use though, I've had half a dozen force closes already

I installed with the torrent w/ google apps link. It has market but didn't have Gmail. I was able to get Gmail from the Market, but its the same version I have on my phone while I would think the Honeycomb version has been updated. The mail app for corporate email is cool though

Notifications are a step backwards in my opinion, unless I'm missing some way to view/clear all of them at once

OK, I have the image burned onto my micro sd card and rebooted my nc with it inside. All I get is a clock and a message to enter a password to unencrypt the disk. I've haven't seen anyone mention anything about a password, does anyone know what it is?
