[HOW-TO] Download/Install Honeycomb to Nook Color (SD card)

I have installed honeycomb on my phone and installed SDK on my computer. Still cant get SDK to pick up the Nook. Its really annoying me. I have installed the USB drivers too. I have no idea why i cant get it to work. If i cant get this to work then honeycomb is useless on my nook because all i can do is check emails and go on the web. Any Ideas on what I can try now??

The Ugly Truth About Rooting Your Nook.

If you just want to Root your Nook just for the fun of it, go ahead, but...

1. If you have already side loaded free (non-BnN books) .epub(s) and .pdf(s) you will no longer be able to access them once your Nook is Rooted.

2. You will no longer be able to add ANY files to your Nook via Windows Explorer after you have Rooted your Nook.

What I was hoping for was to be able to access my original Nook data AND the new HC3 data, Market and Amazon Books. I was hoping it would be transparent, but it is NOT! You get one or the other but NOT BOTH!

This link below is the closest you get, but even then you don't get to add more content via Windows Explorer.

This has been a wast of three days that I will never get back.

Gook luck to all and good night!

Okay, I have tried on mac and PC. No luck. I can download the image and get to the terminal step on my macbook, but it keeps saying no such file or directory. Then, on the PC I get to the winimage step and have no clue how to get it on to the SD card. Does it matter if I am using a USB adapter for the Micro SD card? Because I couldnt find a class 6 that had a regular SD adapter. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

On Mac when you are typing "dd if=" just drag the file right onto the screen and it will automatically fill in the file name.

Applcations that crash

I want to thank the people developing this first of all. Sending this not as a complaint, just as a report in case others have the issue, and to see if there is fix.

I have the Honeycomb 3 image running and it looks great. Even installed Angry Birds (who doesn't) and it runs perfect. Then I tried the Kindle Application. When it is launched it causes the OS to reboot. I had used the Kindle APK in a Froyo version of the SD and it worked ok there.

Anyone have a fix?

Not sure I understand you, but you are in the HoneyComb thread and running HC is not rooting your Nook, you are simply booting up HC from your SD card...

Let me say this....You should not install HC unless you are testing it!! It is not for everyday use yet...It is based off of a preview SDK that is still buggy. For everyone having trouble with all the simple stuff, no offense but if you are spending days to get it working and still cannot manage then maybe you should stick with the Stock ROM Rooting via the Auto Nooter

With the AutoNooter approach you can access ALL your files and the B&N stuff works just fine

EDIT: I think most people here (including myself) are willing to spend our time and help because that is the joy of open source but please do a reality check, if you are wasting days of your like maybe this isn't for you yet.

AutoNooter sounds GREAT to me, thanks for the tip!

I like open source, but I didn't want to be a tester here, I just wanted the best of both worlds.

That's all I ever wanted.

Yeah, that is a good trick, but I am looking for some better step-by-step directions for both Mac and PC. I feel like something is missing because no matter how I do it, the process does not end in success.

Market Won't Run

Every time I try to open the market, I get a white screen and it force closes. I've repushed 3 times with no luck :(

Any Ideas?

I agree with the above reply... you're not really rooting if you're playing with Honeycomb...right now, people are still experimenting and trying to fix bugs, etc...I'd hold off for now.

However, don't give up on rooting...I've rooted my nook and have froyo (version 2.2) on it... I can still access all the stuff from before rooting (epubs/pdfs/pics/mp3/etc) ... the nook interface is still there (with My Library, etc).... I'd recommend using a launcher like LauncherPro...you can easily switch from Android (where you keep all the Android apps you get from the market) and the previous Nook interface (the apps are actually all there too under 'extras')

Ok, just had to clarify that...sorry, I know this thread is about Honeycomb...

Did I wipe my OS using WinImage?

Is it possible I wiped my OS while trying to load nookhoney in WinImage? PC crashed and "Boot device not found" error pops up whenever I try to restart.

Awesome.

(re: Nook app in V3 Honeycomb)
Yes it is working for me

Did you do anything special to get it to work? I installed the market, downloaded the Nook App, and it won't open a book when click one.

They download fine, but won't actually open so I can read them. :'(

"Enter password to decrypt storage" message

I now keep getting the error message "Enter password to decrypt storage" when I reboot. Anything I type gets a "Sorry, try again." I originally installed the first version of Honeycomb succesfully, but after adding a number of apps, it locked up in a loop of FCs. Rebooting brought up the error message. I reinstalled Honeycomb a second time and reset everything back up. Now, after installing ver. 3 of Honeycomb, I can't get to the opening Honeycomb screen.

After checking this site and others, I found 1 or 2 references to this and I believe the problem has to do with the SD card partition - either the size or the format. One post said to put the SD card back into the 'PC and format the "sdcard" partition (fat32, defaults).' Other posts here have said to adjust the partition size with EASEUS.

The problem I'm having is that neither EASEUS or Paragon Partition Manager 'see' the SD card. Vista sees it when I use a card reader and can access it. I can use adb to write to it in the Nook. I can even put it in a different phone and Windows can see it, but the partition programs don't.

Is there some other way to adjust the size of the partition or reformat the sdcard partition (not the whole thing, I assume)? Is there a trick to getting EASEUS to see it (I couldn't find anything in their help). The card I'm using is a 16GB class 10 Patriot, which otherwise works fine and is fast. Computer is Windows Vista Pro 32 bit.

Thanks!

Image doesn't finish booting

This newest version hangs with the android blinking cursor for me. I wiped my SD card several times just to be sure I didn't have old data causing things to hang up but no joy.

Download the ISO for Parted Magic....it's free. Burn it to a CD. Boot from that CD. Run the partition editor. It's located on the desktop after Parted Manager finishes booting. Use it to resize, reformat, repartition your SD card. Make sure you hit the "Apply" button after making your changes.

I had the same thing with the 8GB PNY card that I used with version 2. I switched to a 4GB Sandisk and it works. There is nothing wrong with the 8GB, as I tested it in a phone, card reader, and camera, all without issues.

Same here. I've seen the same thing now with versions 2 and 3 (both rooted, following the Honeycomb rooting thread). In fact, pretty well every non-Google app that I try has similar issues and either hangs or crashes (Nook, Kindle, Youtube, Autodesk Sketchbook, etc.). Is this not what others are seeing? I figured it was just the OS itself that was working well, but maybe you guys are getting other apps to work.
