[HOW-TO] Download/Install Honeycomb to Nook Color (SD card)

This crazy I finally get everything working on the NC but now I need to install Market and google services. I finally am able to get the NC to be recognized by my win7 x64 as "Android Composite ADBInterface" and when I goto execute cmd line the device is offline. what gives. Any help would be welcome.
I had the same problem so I downloaded this version of the adb.

[DRIVER PACK] Easy USB ADB Installer for Windows (32/64 bit) - xda-developers

And then my computer recognized my NC.

I was able to install the Market but after copy and pasting the code and pushing twice I still don't see the Google apps like Google Maps.

I have done everything possible to get the USB ADB Installer for Windows (32/64 bit) - xda-developers to install and run on 2 different computers. On Windows 7 64 it show the correct devices in device manager but ADB cannot see the Nook. On Windows Vista 64 the drivers install but device manager does not see the devices the same and I still cannot adb to see or talk to my nook? Honeycomb version 4 installed and worked great but just need market. I also tried going to the android market through the browser and download the wireless ADB utility and it wont let me send it anywhere but my Droid X. Is there any were the APK's for the Google Market and the Google Services Framework to get the market working? I have already spent 3 hours last night and searched everywhere for an answer. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the input. I tried that and got to the same point. adb sees the device and reports a serial number but says off line. I also see that win7 x64 see's that there are 2 drives and they are grayed out but there. cannot access them. kill server, start server, adb devices, all work. Just says offline and is offline.:'(

Although it sounds stupid here is what I did that fixed the issue for me:
1) Turn off computer
2) Unplug power cord for 30 second
3) Turned on computer
4) Plugged in Nook and made sure it was the only USB storage display plugged in (no iPod, no Zune, no external hardrives)
5) Opened the command prompt window FROM the platform-tools folder instead of just a regular cmd window
5) Did the adb steps from the forums, here I did run into an issue where it said device offline. When this happened I typed in the first code again and it went back online. I found that I had to type in each command very quickly so I opened both windows on my screen and just copy-pasted, while one was running, I copied the next and was ready. If I delayed too long I got the offline error and hard to start over again. Again, if I did get the error on the FIRST command though, I just typed it again until it worked.

Of course all of this applied to the LAST version of Honeycomb as this one is still asking me for a password to decrypt the data. Still no fix guys?

Yes I too have had this problem. I finally switched out the sdcard and it solved it used a patriot 4GB class 10 worked. A Sandisk 8GB class 4 worked. All the others did not that I tried. I had a 16GB class 10 I was really hoping to get working but always got it to the password part. Tried all the suggestions here and still nothing. So working now on this offline part.

@Calma10 I will try that.

@AHfootball12 re: 5) Opened the command prompt window FROM the platform-tools folder instead of just a regular cmd window
not sure how to do that.
I have always just started a cmd prompt window. cd to the directory which is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools" then when there start the sctipting listed in the thread. "adb shell mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 /system" ect.

Can you help me by teaching me what you are referring to if different than what I am doing?

1) Go into your C:/ drive and go into the android sdk windows folders so that you can see the platform-tools folder.
2.) Make sure you have all the correct folders and files in there
3) While holding shift, right click the platform-tools folder and select "Launch command from this location" (or something like that, I am currently on my Mac so I can't tell you exactly what it says)
4) Now command prompt is open into the correct folder so paste in the first command and go from there.

This is what I did and it worked for me but when I started from the cmd window itself it didn't. I really hope this helps!

I just wish someone had a fix for the decrypt password request.... like maybe the password?

@roberto

Since there are now 51 pages to this thread which would take hours to search, how about a pointer to regaining that memory on the SD card.

Edit: I found a method in post #449, which describes using Easeus. Does anyone know how to do it on a Mac? I have XP installed in a VirtualBox, but I'm reluctant to use it for a task like this.

Roberto, I haven't worked with a Mac in years and can't address your question about using Easeus on one. However, as noted in post #516, if you have access to a Windows computer and use Easeus, you can regain the memory. The procedure is very well detailed in the online instructions for Easeus. I followed them exactly after reading them over a couple of times and figuring things out.

Basically, I just inserted the sd card into my laptop card reader, started Easeus, located the drive letter corresponding to my card, ran chk disk and defrag, then selected the partition that I wanted to extend. It was easy to select because I knew how much memory the Nook Color was reporting for it. Right next to it was the unrecognized partition and about 5.94gb of memory. After right-clicking on the appropriate partition (the one just before the unallocated partition), I selected Resize/Move and just moved the right side limit bar over to where I wanted it. I left about 679gb unallocated as per instructions so the program would have some working space. Then I clicked OK, and then clicked Apply in the box at the bottom of the wizard column to the left. Voila! I now have gone from 1.24gb available on the card to almost 5gb (as reported in the Nook Storage settings).

My computer still reads the size incorrectly, but since I can now download audiobooks, etc., directly to the card from the nook, I don't rely on sideloading at all. HTH

the password would be nice. i was using a partriot 16gb cl 10, but i am going to switch it to my evo sd card. hopefully it will do the trick.

sounds exactly like my issue with win7 x64.. my next attempt is to try connecting to my nook using ubuntu x32 by installing it via wubi.

I've been following all the posts on AC and XDA. Nobody seems to have an answer for the 'password' issue. It also seems to be prevalent when using 16BG class 10th cards (and Patriot is the one most often mentioned - maybe because of cost and availability, it's the most common). We can probably switch to a lower capacity card, but that rather defeats the purpose.

Since it doesn't look like anyone at XDA or NookDevs is focusing on this issue, does anyone have close contacts with any of the devs working on this that they could ask them to take a closer look at this issue? It has reached a point where enough people are having this issue and I hate to see a newbie to this waste money and time on a card that is only going to frustrate them more...

If anyone has a contact (or 2), it would be a big help to a lot is us!

Thanks in advance!

well, I was able to get it to go online finally. Now it will not repeat. I have 2 card I am creating. An 8GB Sandisk and an 4GB Patriot. Patriot done and now working on the Sandisk.

overclocking on rev04

The latest 04 build of Honeycomb installed very well. I didn't see much on the way of results posted for overclocking. I tried the 1100mhz and the touch responsiveness was very poor - slow and unresponsive around edges of screen.

i've since overclocked to 1000 mhz with good results. Touch responsiveness at all points is good and quick. All looks well; off SD card, class 4, 8 GB Sandisk

Ok, I would like to create a .img of my working SDcard and save it to my Computer HD. What software would be good for this. I'm in Win7 x64. Just in case it gets messed up I can restore it.

Have HC v.4 running on my Nook. I know it has been asked, but I cannot find clear instructions on loading up the Market app for Mac. The instructions on Post #1 are for PC. You cannot run those commands via Terminal on Mac, or at least I cannot get them to run. Using the latest Android SDK, which includes a /platform-tools directory. Just point the way to clear instructions - I can figure the rest out myself.

Thanks

Ditto - I'm a newbie with this, and I was able to successfully load Honeycomb 4 on my SD and run it on the Nook Color (although the clock is out of whack for some reason). But, I want to read my books on it, so I guess I need to add the Market to get the Nook app. I believe I've added all of the necessary files on my computer with the Android SDK and platform-tools directory, but now I'm stumped. If someone could do a step by step instruction for a Mac (including what stage to connect the Nook Color to the laptop) I would be very appreciative. Also, if I am able to get Market running, would the apps go on the SD card (which I would prefer) and, if so, does it need to be partitioned in some way? I have searched through the thread (although I haven't read all 51 pages) but I still can't figure out what to do. If anyonecan help I'd be most appreciative.

I would like to first thank everyone for the very helpful post on using adb. It is very confusing and intimidating for a newb.

I have gone thru all the posts on this thread and I have seen the same questions a few times but no real answer. I was able to get the vending and framework files to load (to my knowledge). I have the market and I am able to get some apps, but I do not see google maps and others. I am also unable to get my gmail contacts to sync with the contacts app (suggestions welcomed). Lastly anyone able to get TweetDeck installed?
