[HOW-TO] Download/Install Honeycomb to Nook Color (SD card)

After installing Honeycomb on a 8GB class 10 SD-Card, my NookColor, HoneyComb boots up beautifully. But, when plugging my NookColor into My WinXP, (USB Cable)(SD-HoneyComb Card Plugged in to my NookColor), I get two drives that appear. Neither accessible("Please insert a disk into drive 'x' msg.). Android Market ADB commands will not work because of this.

Any suggestions would be great. I NEED THE ANDROID MARKET INSTALLED :)

THOUGHT - (Do I need to reinstall the Android HoneyComb onto the SD-Card again? OR......)

********UPDATE********
Found http://nookdevs.com/NookColor_USB_ADB. I installed the installer_r11-windows.exe into C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk directory instead of the C:\android-sdk-windows directory. Reinstalling.........

********UPDATE********
Re installation complete. Android Market Installed Successfully. Downloading Apps....

********UPDATE********
I am finding after and during app downloads, as well as moving apps to any grids i get this error;
"Activity Launcher (in application Launcher) is not responding" (OPTIONS)> " 'Force close' or 'Wait options' "
Restarting my NC seems to clear things up temporarily.

Still working with it.........

O.K., I downloaded the two SDKs (Java 32-bit & Android) and loaded them, but my Windows 7 computer still does not see the Honeycomb-based device connected to the USB port.

I tried the first command, as noted above "adb shell mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 /system" but I am getting "error: device not found", which makes sense because Windows doesn't see the device either.

Any suggestions? I do have a Windows XP system I could do this on, if that would make any difference.

Hi saugistine. Loved "City of God" ;)

From what I understand, XP works better for this than 7.

Did you try rebooting both your NC and the PC you're using after the ADB install?

Edit: (I installed HoneyGApps - available at addictivetips - and that automatically installed Market. From there, just connect to wifi and hit the "market" icon and it will take you right to it. No need for the push vending or push google. FWIW)

The USB Driver for Windows, Revision 4 (December 2010) is no longer available. You get a "?" by it in the SDK and it says "file not found" when you try to download it.

I am glad you loved "City of God," his life story is also an amazing one.

I was just starting to feel like I was getting a hang of this Android thing on my phone, and than I had to go and get a Nook :-! (Now I'm a Nook Noob)

Ok...I'm a bit lost, after downloading WinImage, and I'm thinking it's because I don't have a mini SD Card slot on my computer. Question being...will this still work having the mini sd card read from the Nook, or is part of the process, using WinImage to read the mini sd from the computer itself?

Additional info: Using Vista, and files were successfully extracted using 7Zip

You need to use a card reader. You can get a USB reader for less than $10. Good investment if you also have a digital camera as you can transfer your pics without draining the camera's battery.

This is going to be like the blind leading the blind here so I won't be offended if you totally ignore me.

I *believe* this link may help NookColor USB ADB - nookDevs

There is a link in there to install ADB - hopefully this one will work for you! ;)

THANKS. I've got Honeycomb loaded, but as far as the Market is concerned, my computer isn't reading or recognizing my Nook.

Just to make sure I'm doing it correctly...

I downloaded both, the Market and Google Services Framework from the Nook.

Now, how do I get it to recognize the NC?

problems with honeybread

did anyone else have a problem running honeycomb in portrait? mine cut off a large part of both edges, so i had to reflash it to phiremod. Also while running it, i found that many market apps didnt show up on the market. It's still an awesome os, just wondering if it was just me.

Okay...after literally spending a whole day trying any and everything to get Google Apps and the Market loaded and running, I'm afraid that I'm a beaten man. My hat goes off to those of you who do this stuff for a living. I use to customize my WM phones and BB's all day, but this sucker is beating me up...badly. I tried the DRIVER PACK and my computer seems to be recognizing my NC, but I seem to be getting absolutely nowhere. Are the links still valid/complete? Any suggestions?

Here's what I'm getting from the Command Prompt:

Thunder, are you putting the .apk files in the same folder on your PC as the adb.exe file? You should then navigate to that folder and run the commands. I just copied and pasted when I did it so I did not mistype anything. Just right click as you do each one to paste.

Hi Thunder -

Lazy girl just put HoneyGApps (unzipped) in the folder that Patruns mentions, hit "HoneyGApps.cmd" and a mircale happened (make sure your nookie is plugged into the USB port and is booted to HC when you do it).

HoneyGApps installs Marketplace on your NC without the push commands (at least it did on mine).

ITA about "hats off" to anyone who can do this continually and not go nuckin' futz!

Although I don't believe in there being such a thing as a dumb question, what I'm about to ask, might just change my mind.

Are you referring to the .apk files in the app folder, inside the system folder (inside the platform tools folder)? If so, should I just copy them from out of the sytem folder and paste them directly under platform-tools?

EDIT: Okay Okay...ignore the crazy talk. A couple of things. First....I didn't have the neccessary Java (which I downloaded) on my computer for sdk to work properly, and Secondly, I couldn't use the vending file file from this thread, because the one I downloaded had no apk file....so I did a Google search and found an updated Android Market file and had to rename it Vending. Now...everything seems to be working properly. Thank you to those of you who helped...and your patience.

I am completely new to this, when I tried step 3B the second part it said, dd: nookhoney04.img: No such file or directory. I moved the zip file into a folder on the desktop and unzipped it. What am I doing wrong?

I am assuming you are using a Mac. Can you get access to a PC? I don't understand that command sequence at all. I can't see how it would know what to do. Seems like it is missing some steps....
