[How to] Factory Restore (or Fix a Bricked Phone)

I have tried both of the DXC files and the first file you linked to...the stockdeo. All of them have failed at one point or another.
Hmm this is strange. Try uninstalling the samsung usb drivers, restart your comp, then reinstall the drivers. Then start running through the odin files again. What kind of usb cord are you using?

dtm_stretch I really appreciate all of your help! I finally got it to work after hunting down the hiemdall you told me about. Here is the link Bring it back from the brink! I hope I did the link correctly because that thread did the trick!

Just want to thank you for the direction. I was able to flash back to ec05 from eb13 and update to gingerbread manually from there. I bought the phone rooted and was unable to do so as I was met with various errors. I will stop here because I'm new to droid and won't expose my lack of knowledge of the droid language. Appreciate it.

Re: Odin from DG17 to DI18

I"m trying to get my phone into download mode and cannot, is there something wrong with my phone?

I need help with the drivers part of the Odin process. Quick explanation, I'm using the same computer I used to root my Epic months ago. I'm pretty sure I installed drivers then, my comp recognized my phone, it said SDH-700 or whatever on my computer, and I did the root from there.

If I have the drivers installed from months ago, shouldn't I be good to go? I plug in my phone now and it says device not recognized. But I reinstalled the drivers any everything. Basically, what is the process I need to do to make sure the drivers recognize my phone? I dont get it. I can plug my phone in to the computer, go to USB storage, and go to mass storage and see all the programs on my phone. So does that mean the drivers are installed? Please help! I am all set with the Odin package and what file to use with odin, I just dont know how to make my phone get recognized by my computer! And I don't understand what I do with the drivers. Just install and thats it? Does this sound like a cable issue?

It could be cable related....

Try different ports on your computer... A different computer if you have access to one...

Also you can pull your battery out and leave it out.. Then connect up your cable to your device and computer and boot into Download Mode and see if Odin recognizes the phone....

Reset to any of the official builds, Eclair 2.1 DI18/Froyo 2.2 EB13 or the newest Froyo 2.2 EC05 and you will receive the official OTA (over the air) update.

Paul, any idea when or if the "SPH-D700-EI22-8Gb-REL.tar.md5" file might be released so we don't have to flash back to EC05 in a recovery? And if it ever does, can we update page 1 of this thread?

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Procedure #1 solved my problem. After the Froyo upgrade (done by a store tech, not OTA) I lost a lot of functionality, including screenshot capability. So I rooted. But, I didn?t know I would get CWM, too. The version I got, 2.5.1.0, was apparently not compatible with the Epic, and wouldn?t allow any more upgrades. Kept saying: E: Signature verification failed (even when toggled off). Even after installing newer versions of CWM, the old green version would pop up and stop updates.

After Procedure #1 (which went off without a hitch on my Windows 7 computer), the OTA EI22 upgrade popped right up, and now everything?s great! Well, I lost screenshot again.

Now to my question: Is there a way to root without getting any additions, like CWM? Once burned, I?m wary now.

tammrm :)

Paul:

Thanks for the detailed post. What, if anything, should I do differently for a Galaxy S 4g? At this point it's not going past the opening screen.

Thanks, Sean

In order to root your device you have to install CWM. If you follow the rooting instructions for EI22 GB, you will have the latest and most current CWM. Future updates from Sammy or Sprint, wouldn't worry about them because I doubt we will see anymore.

You may want to get on the HTC Inspire 4G forum. The directions here are for the Samsung Epic 4g ONLY. If you do manage to get ODIN to work with an HTC phone, installing any Samsung software will most likely give you a nice looking paperweight.

Hello everyone i have a sprint SPH-D700 epic 4g, gingerbread i was attempting to root it to get rid of the camera flasher sound when i used instructions i found on this site.
