[How to] Factory Restore (or Fix a Bricked Phone)

Truly bricked?

I am 99% sure the phone is bricked I am more concerned with now if my thinking was flawed and what part it was wrong in the process. I odined a deodexed version of eg22 added the eg22plus kernel. RFS2EXT4 completed. Restarted multiple times because I was not getting a 3g data connection. I thought maybe if i flash the eg22 modem separatly in odin it may fix the issue. Odin stated it ran successfully. After restart the phone will not boot up at all I hit the power button and do not even get a samsung screen. I can no longer boot into download mode either. Is the phone completely dead?

Have you tried removing the SD card? I thought my phone was dead once and after removing both the battery and the SD card I was able to get into download mode. Good luck.

One other thing you might consider. I have read about a reset button near the camera lens. I believe I saw it at XDA. I have never tried this but it sounds like anything is worth a try at this point.

Re: Truly bricked?

Some progress here I can get into download mode but Odin cannot get passed reflashing the modem. Thank you again the button on the back did work. Just need to get the Modem issue fixed. Will try flashing stock ec05 a few more times.

Re: Truly bricked?

@flaredog, instead of using the EC05 tar give the Froyo EB13 a try. There has been many occasions where the EC05 tar just doesn't want to work completely and the EB13 Froyo Odin Restore works great in these situations. Then if that works which it should you would receive the OTA normally within 5-10 minutes of the first boot to update to EC05 and you can do whatever you like from there...

Odin to stock with broken screen

My screen is completely black and nothing comes up but the phone turns on. Id like to odin to stock so bestbuy black tie wont deny my claim. Is this possible?

Re: Truly bricked?

Thank you everyone I flashed to froyo and was still seeming to have some troubles the phone would die every-time I would unplug the USB cord even though the green battery icon was showing an almost fully charged battery. Eventually and luckily my wife had an Epic and I tried her battery and my phone powered up and stayed on after USB removal. Some how the battery stats were not reading correctly so the battery was completely dead. It seems to be charging now will let it sit for a few hours to try to get a full charge. Thank you too everyone I will absolutely be looking into learning more about android and the hardware that can run it get a little bit of a dabble into modding maybe. This forum is truly great though.

Yes it is... Very simple actually..

Grab procedure #1 (Froyo EC05) from the link below and follow the instructions.

[How to] Factory Restore (or Fix a Bricked Phone)

All you will need to do is pull your battery to make sure your device is off.

Then load up Odin on your computer.

Next place your device in download mode (Hold down 1 on the physical keyboard and press power) for about a good 5-10 seconds... Connect your USB cable to your device and look at Odin, if you see the ID:COM spot light up yellow with some numbers in it your connected!

Then just place the tar file in PDA slot, make sure REBOOT ONLY is selected on Odin and press start. It will say pass when complete.. Your good to go from there...

Paul you rock and I thank you for your time. I will buy you a beer and a shot of jameson if youre interested

Re: Odin to stock with broken screen

Your welcome. I've been in a situation similar to this myself...

As far as the beer and shot, as it says in my signature below a nice cold Pepsi would be good enough for me ;)

If it said pass then your good to go, no more signs of rooting. Nice and stock for you to turn into Best Buy.

Glad to help out.

Edit: Thank you so much for your donation. Its appreciated more than you know ;)

Re: Odin to stock with broken screen

Paul,
On this note, I have two Epics running custom roms, I have moved on to Nexus so haven't kept up on the forums. One is having issues, so want to put them both back on stock and ota to stock Gingerbread so I don't have to worry about maintaining or upgrading to newest roms (they are my
kids away at school, kind of a pain and one's battery is acting up).

Should I just Odin to EC05 as stock, then this will allow the update when it comes out??

All info will stay on card if backed up still won't it? Titanium won't work since it will now be unrooted, so I will also copy off to computer as much as possible "just in case". FYI - Nexus Odin erases everything because of the internal storage.

Thanks
