How to fix my phone from acting up?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3, and it's been acting strange for awhile now.
The Wi-fi turns on and off, and now, when it's asleep the Wi-fi won't connect, although it's enabled, it just won't connect, until I pick it up and start using it.
Also, I've been getting advertisements in my notification bar for a few weeks now. I have anti-virus and whatnot on my phone, and it says everything is okay, but I don't think it is. Please help and thanks!

Welcome to Android Central! Are you saying the wi-fi radio turns on and off by itself, or that the wi-fi radio stays on, but the connection drops intermittently?

Go to Settings>Wi-fi, tap Menu, then Advanced, and make sure "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" is set to "Always."

As for the ads in the notification bar, install something like Lookout's Ad-Network Scanner & Detector, and see if it comes up with anything.

You may also want to try booting into Recovery and wiping the system cache partition, which won't erase any personal data: http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...ing-into-recovery-mode-galaxy-s2-s3-tab2.html

Thanks B. Diddy! I've tried these, figured out the app that is causing the ads is Bloons Tower Defense: Battles. I've got the 4G running when the Wi-Fi is enabled problem solved as well.
The only problem I'm still having is the Wi-fi turning on and off. Mainly when I go into an app.

Glad to hear most of the problems are resolved. For the wi-fi issue, can you answer my previous question--is the wi-fi radio itself turning off and on, or is it just losing the wi-fi connection? You can tell by going to Settings>Wi-fi, and seeing if the switch itself is turning off.

Yes the radio itself is turning off and on. Like I'll have it off, enter an app that uses internet, and I'll lose connection to the app while the wi-fi turns on. Which is really annoying because my wi-fi isn't all that great.

So you mean you're on mobile data and wi-fi is off, then you open an app, and the app seems to force wi-fi to turn on? And while wi-fi is turning on, the mobile data connection drops out?

Is it only specific apps that seem to turn on Wi-Fi?

Well, not really. Doesn't matter if it's Facebook, Clash of Clans, Hay Day, or any of the regular apps and games that I use, the only one that doesn't seem to do it is Youtube
