How To Get Rid of the 4.0.4 Radios?

When I go into Reboot into Recovery from ROM Manager, I get the dead android. Then the phone spontaneously reboots after a couple of minutes of the dead android.

The only way I can avoid the dead android is to reflash CWM Recovery and then go directly into Reboot into Recovery from ROM Manager. But if I don't reflash CWM Recovery each time before I go into Reboot into Recovery, I get the dead android. Each time I reflash CWM Recovery it tells me it was successful.

Obviously something is wrong since CWM Recovery never gets flashed permanently to my phone. I think this must have something to do with how I can't write to my GNex from Windows XP. Maybe I don't truly have root access?

I just went into advanced options and I saw fix permissions so I am running that. Maybe that will help?

ETA - nope didn't fix it. Got the dead android again.

If you want permanent Clockwork Recovery (via XDA):

1. Install Root Explorer from the market and delete /system/reboot-from-recovery.p – *Mount as R/W first*
2. Reboot into Fastboot Mode: Power off your device and (Power + Volume Up and Down)
3. Flash CWM (fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.4-toro.img)
4. Reboot into OS (fastboot reboot)
5. You now have CWM recovery permanently installed

Also, you don't have to use Root Explorer (it's a paid app) You just need to use a file browsing app that has root access and is able to R/W

lol no, just want to make sure if that pesky flashing bug comes back (or, if, heavens be still, CM9 is released) I can get to rockin'!

Your guides are awesome, thank you!
Thanks for the complement on the guides. I have to do that or I never remember how to do. If you look back at the guide CyberWarrior put together I was trying to get someone else to step up to the Linux guide! I'm a programmer and we are lazy like that. I would rather copy and paste someone else's code than have to write it myself! Ha, ha... But if I have to take the time to figure it out myself then I sometimes make a guide or wiki just in case I need to do it again or I think someone else might find it useful.

Thanks I will try that. Does this require me to write a file from my Windows XP machine to my GNex? Because if it does, that is the problem - for some reason I cannot write to my GNex from my Windows XP machine.

Yes. Are you familiar with Android SDK and ADB?

If not, I believe you can just use this method:

1. Install Root Explorer from the market and delete /system/reboot-from-recovery.p ? *Mount as R/W first

2. Go into ROM manager and reflash Recovery

3. You should have permanent CWM after that.

Correct, CWM is a one time deal if you don't delete the file as Halo stated. I had trouble deleting it with adb on my phone. Lucky for me, the ROM I'm using (Codename) takes care of that for me.

Yea most roms fix that issues. I never flashed a separate. That is like the old way. Best way is open rom manager very first option is flash recovery click select cdma it will dl the recovery to your phone. No extra steps needed. Also if your running just stock but rooted and unlocked there are some apps in market to boot into recovery easier. Also to check root on phone I use root checker its free

Thanks, but I am stuck with that Google screen. What now?

This is where a knowledge of Android SDK and ADB would be very, very useful. This would be a very easy fix if you were able to use it.

What exactly did you do before you got to the current screen you're stuck on?

I double clicked install-superboot-windows.bat in an attempt to reroot.

I have adb-windows.exe. Should I click it?

I am a fast learner :D

Are you using a one-click method? I'm not familiar with the install-superboot-windows.bat

Take a sec why are we dealing with sdk/adb and the pc? I thought we are dealing with recovery?
I thought I lost root, which I am pretty sure that I did, and so I tried to reroot. Now I am stuck with the Google screen after I double clicked install-superboot-windows.bat.

I would do that each time and each time it would say I had flashed CWM Recovery successfully, but then it wasn't permanent. I thought I had lost root, which I think I did like others have when they flashed 4.0.4. Tried to reroot and now this.

We are dealing with recovery. I was just asking if she knew how to use sdk/adb. That way, she could just flash the recovery with adb.

Okay, that's a different method from what I did with mine.

Either way, that thread says it can be in the Google screen for 5 to 10 minutes. Are you still at that screen?
Yes been in it for close to 45 minutes.
