How To Get The 4.2.2 OTA NOW

Re: How To Get The 4.2.2 OTA NOW (super easy)

After doing this everything seems to work fine, the only thing I'm not sure about is Facebook notifications, I didn't have any apps that needed updating so I can't test that out, but I was able to download apps from the play store right away without any problems.

Settings > Accounts > tap Google > it should then show your account, then tap your email address. Tap the menu button and select remove account.

Re: How To Get The OTA NOW (super easy)

I am seriously regretting this SIMPLE workaround. I cleared the cache. And now my device has dissappered from google play. I used google play on my computer to remotely install apps.

I tried installing apps (from phone). The installed apps are shown under apps (on google play opened in computer). I tried removing my google account and adding it again. Still no luck.

Above all, I didn't got 4.2.2!
PS: It has been more than 8 hr since my device dissappered :(

At least you didn't have the Play Store issue! :-)

I guess I shouldn't have used "super easy" in my title of this thread. It worked flawlessly for me except for the Google Play Store issue and it worked well for many othet people... BUT unfortunately it's caused issues for you and others. I have some regrets for posting this. I only wanted to pass on to fellow forum members something I THOUGHT was a good thing. Will I use this method again for 5.0? Yes... but I won't be posting it.

There is nothing against you. It was us who fell for this trap. We should have used manual installation using SDK. Anyway, Is there any chance of getting my device listed again on google play??

The only thing I can think of is to remove your account and then add it again. As far as it being a "trap"..... I wouldn't call it that. It is after all just one established way to force the download. Worked for some and not for others. There's always a risk involved when you take a short cut. As far as your issue... if doing what I said doesn't work... PM Still1. He's really knowledgeable.

I tried two-three times doing all the bit as advised i.e. switching off location services, clearing the cache of google frame services. it sure indicates the date 1.1.1970 but it won't fetch the update.

Re: How To Get The OTA NOW (super easy)

Okay... so to fix the google play issue... clear the data on the "download manager" and the "google play store".Then restart your phone... Now reload the google play website on your PC... and everything should work fine.

I know this because i clear the "google framework" and had to call up google to fix it.

Re: How To Get The OTA NOW (super easy)

oh yeah... on your computer it will say you have no apps installed (while all of your apps are still on your phone)... so you are going to have to "install" all the apps to your phone via the web based google play store, to trick googles servers.

Re: How To Get The OTA NOW (super easy)

Go to Location Access
Turn off Access to my Location

go to settings -> apps -> all

scroll down to Google-Services-Framework

force stop and delete data

then go to settings ->about-> system updates and it should say last update 01.01.1970

check for updates and it should work

Kudos to you for the clear instructions - worked as advertised!

Re: How To Get The OTA NOW (super easy)

Worked like a charm! Many thanks. Btw, it did take 2 tries.

Re: How To Get The OTA NOW (super easy)

i wonder now if my erasing/resetting the phone was even needed and updates were working... because i based it off a couple apps i thought needed updates like earth (which was asking for an update before the upgrade) and currents... but even after the erase i dont recall it asking for it. i wonder if the 50mb file included updates of those apps. because it did retain the 4.2.2 even after the erase/reset and 50mb is pretty large for not many listed updates.

oh well.

Kudos to you for the clear instructions - worked as advertised!
