I posted a version of this over on MDW and figured this might help people here as well.

This was how I upgraded based on the instructions of P3Droid in all of his posts for the various leaks that he released to us. It is my first time organizing this so please tell me if you see anything wrong or if you see something that I should add.

To start you will need some files:

Move all of these files to the root of your SD card
These are links to threads or locations for the files.
Z4root.apk
D2 Bootstrap(market link)
All Three parts of .588 rooted GB
.595 Deodexed

These are files for your PC
credit goes to DefinNormal for links from his thread Swiss Army Knife of Files
RSDLite 4.8 or RSDLite 4.9
Froyo Full SBF file

And if you don't have the drivers for your PC yet 32bit drivers or 64bit drivers

These are the steps I took to bring my Droid X to Gingerbread:

1. SBF Your phone! if you don't know how to do that then you need to read Updated SBF instructions or if you prefer the Linux route
2. skip adding accounts when you first boot up
3. install z4root from SD and do permanent root
4. install D2Bootstrapper from SD
5. Boot into CWM
a. install parts 1, 2, 3 of .588
b. use the back button and wipe/factory reset 3 times for good measure(I just have a complex)
c. reboot
7. skip google account sign in and reinstall D2Bootstrap
8. Boot into CWM again
a. Install .595 deodexed zip
b. wipe/factory reset again 3 times(again overkill)
9. Reboot
10. Install the latest busybox
11. Install JRummy Market Fixer
12. Enjoy your upgraded Droid X!

I take no responsibility if you screw up and damage your phone. You are using these directions at your own risk.

bump.

I was actually just about to post this and paste the link to the mydroidworld thread, but but this came up in the "related threads" box.

Great guide, sage! I used this last night and didn't run into any problems at all. You made it very easy. Thank you!

Hopefully this will cut down on some of the new threads being posted daily about these topics. Pushes older posts that alot of us reference further down the line, lol

Ok problem. I'm on .573 and I've read else where I can go to .588 without sbf but anytime I try to install any of the three parts in recovery it says it was aborted then status 7. Any ideas?

Doesn't work on Milestone X Z4Root crashes every time.

The only time I had any problem with z4 was when I hadn't SBF'd or after SBFing i signed into my google account. maybe try a battery pull/reboot then Z4 again.

I would say to SBF, I never touched .573 but with everything i have read people had problems upgrading from it. Save yourself a headache, SBF and start with the 3 part .588 upgrade from Froyo.

Thanks for the instructions! I am not a newbie, per se, but have ALWAYS had problems getting rsdlite to run on my PC. Using the iso from this thread helped tremendously. I just wanted to share it for anyone who has problems like me.

I was afraid of that lol. Oh well here we go again

I am going edit the first post to include this link! thank you for posting it.

Once I accepted the unfortunate fact of having to sbf from .573 everything worked great.

I'm on .588, and not really having any problems with it. Plus, I haven't rooted, so no Titanium, so no easy restore if I update.

To those of you running .595: Is it worth it? I don't have any real problems where I am (other than unrooted-ness) should I just wait for the OTA (and the root that follows it) since I'd have to SBF back anyway?

Thanks all for your opinions.

No there really isnt any major differences with .595 so unless you have a reason to update I wouldn't bother, most of the users that updated to the update was because they believed that this would allow easy update to official update that wont happen, you still have to SBF to 2.3.340 to receive update.

Where is your info about the update path coming from

I can't speak to his specific info, but that has been the case with every OTA update so far. You won't be able to get it unless you're on the stock OS, and I think you need to be unrooted as well.

Well as I understood it the current .595 is the official gb dev release from verizon meaning it should be an ota to verizons approved final build to .596. I will see if I can find the thread I got this info from

.588 has the baseband update and .591 or .595 is where the Kernel is updated, not sure which one specifically though.
