If you have Titanium Backup, you can probably just restore all your apps without having to re-download them. At least I think?

I also have thunderc 1.1 recovery. Looking at the steps in Part 2, looks like we need to use the Xionia recovery. All we need to do is flash it, so I guess it's easy to get on the phone.

yea install it like it says on the xionia recovery page im trying to get it to .img file right now but it downloads as a .rar file instead of the normal .zip which is making things very difficult for me to get it to work and no one wants to talk to me on that thread :'(

I think you're supposed to unzip the .rar file to get the .img file. Don't most unzip programs work on .rar files?

Did you "Cat" both su and busybox to /system/bin?

Step 9 says:

9) Cat (not copy) su and busybox to /system/bin (EXAMPLE: "cat /sdcard/busybox > /system/bin/busybox")

The example he gave in parentheses is only to cat busybox. So you probably also need to type "cat /sdcard/su > /system/bin/su"

yep. following sarcoptic's post. just to make sure...

after i cd the sdk tools folder. i do adb shell. is everyone getting "~ #" after that?

edit: seems to have gone through on my like fifth try lol...not sure what i did different or did wrong before but thanks for everyones help and posts!

edit #2: now that i think about it you may have been right pcubed my mistake.shouldn't have flipped from post to post and confused myself. the time it worked i thought to myself "did i always cat three files?"

Yea win zip didn't so I downloaded win rar then they messed each other up so I uninstalled win zip extracted the file and now it doesn't have .img or .anything after it and I don't know if I should just add it manually or what

The xionia .rar file contains only one file inside of it, which is the xionia .img file....extracting the rar should yield the img....

well there are two different download (besides the flash_image) one is under like source information at the bottem that takes you to a different site to download it from so maybe I downloaded the wrong one or win rar doesn't work right

And yes when I extracted it there was just one folder with one file in it but the file didn't end with .img or have a .anything after it but I think that it is still the right disc file. (when I double click it it asks me if I want to burn it to a disc) im just not sure because it had no,.img at the end so I want to know if I should just manually add .img to the end of it

If you are using windows, you probably will not see the .img extension. (I don't - Windows Vista and Windows 7) But really - with all the problems you seem to be having - have you considered the RomTools app?

First time post but I'm always reading and learning. First thanks to all who help us non programmers out. My question is I'm one of the people that have the new phone with the newer lcd so when I reflash back to V9 my display goes black. So how can I root with z4root when I cannot see the screen to launch the app?
I'm missing something that can get me around this problem? Good news I was able to flash back to ZVD with no problem. Hope my post is clear enough to understand.

Ok I am gonna do this tonight, when you do this do I need to wipe davlik, cache, or data? Right now I'm running TR 1.7 & Xionia recovery. do I just update, root, reboot and it will be right back into TR 1.7 with all my data? Thanks

You'll want to do a nandroid backup and then restore it after you do the update. The update wipes out a lot of things.

You can skip the root part, if you are restoring a nandroid or going directly to a rooted custom rom.

It's an executable program for your pc. You download it to your pc, unzip it to your desktop (or where ever) and run it. Follow all inductions in the op!
