Sorry if this has been asked before but i could not find it on all these 60 or so pages but what is the difference between edify and append versions of some of the themes?
Cool thanks.. I didn't read his post about it.. I just checked out the previews in the main Theme post and flashed it.. there's no 2.5 warning up there.

A short answer to a very long & complicated story:
You will not find an answer in this thread. But the best explanation is there are two methods of installing themes, ROMS, patches, boot animations and other files packages via Clockwork Mod Recovery.. The first is CWM v2.5.1.x - it is a good version but has parts of it that do not work properly, backups were flawed, restores were flawed, memory did not mount properly and there was installation issues.
A few months ago a new version was created and updated several times... that has all functions working properly (it is believed) - most recent version: CWM3.0.2.7x...
The problem arises with the scripts (installation language) in the versions that themes are packed with: The older version (broken v2.5.1.x) will handle the newer language but the newer version (v3.0.2.7x) will not handle the older scripts.. thus the older scripted versions will not work on the new CWM..
It is not hard to convert the install scripts over for the items to be installed, it just takes time..
First let me apologize for any misinformation that may be getting out. The new CWM with voodoo is red (v3.0.2.7x).. It works just like the red (v2.5.1.x).. It is being packaged with kernels that are being released by nemisis2all and imnuts. If you flash one of their kernels to your phone it will convert you to the new CWM (v3.0.2.7x)..
If you choose to flash back to 2.5.1.x you may have to use Odin to flash it back.. I have read reports that this does not work.. I have not tried it.. if you do please report back..
Thanks for the help Landshark!
wow thanks for taking the time to explain that. So is amend the older cwm2.5.1 version and edify the newer version but edify can still be used with cwm 2.5.1?
I believed at one point i flashed "cwm all" or something like that but i went into recovery and it says version 2.5.1x. So should i go ahead and do a search for cwm 3.0.2.7x and flash it?
With the CommRom, does anyone know if its safe to flash from one them to another without having to reflash the ROM to get rid of the first one? Im wanting to go from Black Alien (39MB)to Red (33MB).
i am guessing you are talking about going from black alien to red volt (themes)? It is likely that gunnermike53 has themed lots of the features.. You may see some residual elements of black alien if red volt does not overwrite all of it..
given that you made a nandroid back up of your base rom you should be able to restore that back up and then apply the red volt theme with out any issues..

You are correct in in both language and function.. If you are using a version that is not the CWM 3-30 Fix then you have a severely limited version of Clockwork Mod Recovery.. still labeled 2.5.1.x. There was a fix put out on 3-30 but it was limited in scope as far as repairs.
Here is a link to two of the new CWM Red (voodoo):
Install this one by flashing in Odin: Link
Install this one by flashing in CWM 2.x..: Link
This is the most up to date version thanks to times-infinity. Additional information is on his post (developer link in name)..[/QUO
thank you so much!
i flashed the 1.2 comm rom buy my cwm is still 2.5.1.x
If you flash the kernel by itself, it will convert you to cwm 3.0, but the recovery included in the comm rom will keep you at cwm 2.5.1. If you want to go to cwm 3.0, you will need to flash cwm 3.0 through odin or cwm. Both versions linked to a few posts back.
If you odin 3.x I think you need to boot str8 to recovery with the ol 3 finger salute or it wont stick and u will be reverted back to 2.x....Correct me if im wrong sharky, since i have yet to make the leap
The themed features in black alien are pretty much the same as red volt. And I am perfectly fine with any residual. According to the list of themed features, there shouldnt be any, however.
...........I did??? Plus Im still using 2.5, not 3.0 CWM. Wasnt a problem with 2.5 the actual restore process? And for what its worth, it doesnt affect me any to wipe. I just didnt know if there was another "process"?
There is no way to 'remove' a theme... Each time you flash a theme the zip file applies new (themed) files to the phone overwriting the existing files.. the only way to remove the themed elements is to replace the themed files with unthemed files.. either by restoring a back up of the base ROM or by flashing either another theme over the top or the base ROM back onto the phone..
So yeah, gunner has themed both Red Volt and Black Alien to the same degree you should have minimal residual..
That is the only processes to 'remove' a theme.
As far as the backup - I have been a firm believer in backing up the base ROM right after flashing it to ensure you have a clean backup just in case something bad happens (personal experience) - and it likely will..
Yeah, I knew it wrote over the existing files...I just didnt know if there was any other process other than reflashing or restoring.
So, before I get 2 or 3 days in on this new ROM (just dl this morning), would you suggest, at this point, just reflashing it and doing the backup and THEN reflashing the theme?
And if your answer to that is yes, just to make sure Im doing things right, there is nothing "special" I need to do before reflashing the CommRom is there? Since Im currently running it, I just simply boot into CWM (im running 2.5) reflash v1.0, let it boot up, then reflash the patch, and THEN backup? Sound right?
